1 week and i get to finally hit the woods. Dad just called me. Lost one of our hunting spots. It was a managed forest crop chunk of land that was quite a few hundred acres and we rarely ran into bow hunters. Needless to say its no longer in the managed land for public access.
A couple more pics. The first one is an old farmstead we came across while scouting. The other two are from the cement ridge lookout. Sent from my XT1254 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Yep. Looks like you're pretty far away, but it's the right part of the country at least. My dad moves all over the globe for sporting goods stores. Have you guys ever watched Bar Rescue? He will turn an archery shop around within a year or so and then move on to another conquest.
I go through there all the time. I work in North Dakota. Billings is only 5 hours away from me. That's awesome that he gets to do that. Sent from my XT1585 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Oh, that's awesome. Give him a visit sometime. I'm sure he will have the archery department whipped into shape in no time. He's been at Sportsman's Warehouse, Lancaster Archery, just had a gig in New Zealand, and a handful of shops in AZ.
Taking my bow in to a new shop a friend recommended to get this peep twist taken care of. Shot much better at 40 yds. last night...I must have had the yips the other day. Unfortunately those yips led to a lost arrow somewhere behind my target, so I may be in the market for some new arrows. I have GT Hunter Extreme 55/75s currently and I'm down to 3. Anyway, I'm also getting new lighted nocks and then re-sighting tonight to compensate for the added grains. I'll be ready by opener, but it is going to be purdy warm at 85 degrees with a South wind.
So I got my bow fixed. Really fixed. That shop just earned a customer. I now have it sighted in perfectly and ready to go, and it is shooting like it should. The last bow "tech" had it all out of wack, man. Nock point wrong, rest wrong, and sight wrong. I knew it, but I'm not great at fixing it. After talking to these guys at B and B archery in Raytown, MO, I am going to get better at my own tuning. Natural progression.
So now a few days in, we have come to the realization that most of the mulies are bedding on two large private tracts of land. Been seeing many (100+) deer while glassing...now it is time to switch gears to whitetail and move in to our suspected hot spots. Looking forward to what tomorrow brings.
Yea kinda sucks but oh well. My best stand especially during the rut is back where our cabin is so i'm still good with my #1 spot. Plus I got countless of other public land spots I can hunt that I very rarely ever see another bow hunter.
Hoping today is the day. I'm headed back up to the mountains. Not sure if I want to hunt the stands first thing or the other spot I got. Guess I'll have to flip a coin. Lol. Good luck to everyone else Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I'm in this contest for the fun of it. Now that I have that out of the way, I am still competitive by nature, and Team 15 is not making this easy. That latest one is a BEAST! I don't think I'll ever even see a 185 class deer from a stand. Well maybe some day.
Well I'm back early after I shot an inch over a doe at 8:30 this morning. I wasn't sure if it was me or if my sight got bumped between yesterday an this morning. Shot the moment I got home an sure enough the sight got bumped. Moved sight an bingo back on. She was 28 yards out. . I pulled cards before I left and I got her on all the cams. So hopefully I can get redemption tomorrow. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Talk about a bad day. I got off work today and decided to go sling a few arrows. First and second shot were dead on at 20 and 30. Knocked the arrow for the 40, drew back, squeezed the trigger and BOOM! Arrows flys into pieces and my string breaks! Brand new Americas Best string by the way. The only thing I can think of is that I shot an arrow that was previously hit by another and it splintered when I shot it. It's weird because I shot the same arrows yesterday and this was the first time the same arrows were shot today. Both cams are bent. Bear said that they don't make that bow anymore and it will take 3 weeks to make the cams, add in the cost of another string and now we are around the $450 mark. My local shop has a brand new Mathews Z3 that he will sell me for $500. So it looks like I'll be getting a new Mathews lol. I will have very little time to set up my one pin HHA and get used to the new rig. On the bright side I guess I'm new owner of a new Mathews.
That stinks. What model of bear do you have? Hope for a quick sight in for you. Sent from my XT1585 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
No bueno! I think you'll find the mathews a pleasant experience, but that definitely sucks this close to season. Sent from my SM-G935V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
