Great, I will be there in the am to try to figure out the 21st century check-in gadgetry they upgraded to this year. Man, you sure are talking like your daughter is going to hunt this year! THAT is awesome Sean. I can also imagine the spring time for you guys. It will be the three of you in the turkey woods hooting and calling...what a blast.
She's stoked... I asked my son if he was going Sat and she said NO, I just want to hunt with you daddy. Not sure there this came from...still have a few doubts. Waiting for her to say never mind. But all is ready.
Well my wife has an MRI this Friday night and she probably will have surgery within the next three weeks, putting the surgery right in the middle of bow season. I have to take care of my baby but I hope to get out and hunt some as well the first 3 weeks of October. Good luck guys, the hunting season is about ready to start rocking and rolling!
Truck is packed, passes for 6C - gonna hunt down by the water side with all the heat. Got an 8 yr old and 10 yr old in tow...gonna be a great day no matter what.
Well, got the kids up and around at 0445. In the woods by 0530 or so. Around 0800 or so my daughter stands up to stretch her legs, and I see two does coming in. I told her to slowly sit back down, she moves a bit faster then I wanted... The does are go on alert, about 25 yds off to the right. I slowly put the crossbow in her lap, grab a bolt and they were still looking at us. She starts to pick up the bow and starts to bring it up and the does busted her and bolted off. After that the attention span started to fray - made it about 40 mins more and they were toast. We got out and scouted, I found a great run, marked it with the GPS and we headed out. Both kids had a great time, gotta ween them onto longer sits. My son can go 4 hours when its just me and him, but I think the sister factor subtracted a hour or so. My day next Sat...

Thanks Brett...focus was on fun today. If she hadn't stood up, the does were headed for a crossing on one of the dry creek beds. Would have come right down the pipe. I am getting better at finding the funnels with the topo maps, had planned that out the night before. We stumbled on some past hunters reflective tacks and followed that in, so a mix of luck and copying. But adding to the end of last season, I am getting to where I am putting myself on deer, just need to close the deal. Got a good feeling for Sat, see what this weather does to us. The new HTS - SUCKS. You brown cards are hosed if I am correct... Got a text have not checked it, guessing it was you. Got the new Halo Reach XBox game...should have waited to open it.
Wow, that is really encouraging for a Brown Card guy like myself. I will be heading in Tues/Wed to get my base pass. All I want is a pass system where I can go in during the early afternoon, get my pass, and hunt. Is that possible?
where your gonna lose is that more of us (Green) can get better TA's since being in line doesn't cut into your time any longer. So the good TA's are gonna lock out to the green and blue - leaving the rest to the brown. It used to be stacked up a bit and less greens were able to wait in line (I never did). I used to call and got what I got, now that I can call and get what I want I think its gonna lock out the TA's faster...but will be all Green in some, all Blue in Some and brown fitting in where there are spots less. My take, maybe I a wrong. When your gonna hunt same days as me, you HAVE to let me know so I can get you a decent TA in my call. That is goodness that wasn't there before. So you get the 1200 time hack when I call for us.
Partly cloudy, high of 71 Sat with low about 49.... Cold front for VA this time of year. Brett, are you able to hunt Sat morning? Seem to recall you can't. Let me know, if you are even hunting that day, I will get you a TA.
Sean, thanks for the info on the new system. I bet your take is correct, and to be honest, more Marines need to get passes anyways. That is what the system was designed to do, reduce the deer population, and give the guys some time to relax in the woods. As soon as I get my pass number I will give it to you. I really appreciate it. I will be hunting Saturday afternoon. Maybe I can give you my pass number, you can call it in and I will pick up my pass? Do I physically have to get a pass or just a confirmation number? So like I could get a confirmation number, not hunt in the am, then just call and check out once I leave the woods? Man this system is going to be a pain in my rear. I just want to relax and hunt.
I can call and reserve, YOU have to get it the night before or before 0530 the next morning when they release to the folks waiting. I will be hunting all day Sat... Going to pack lunch, probably come off the stand mid day for chow. Not sure if I will stay in the stand all day, or break out and hang out by the truck for chow, maybe catch a nap and head back in around 1400 or so. will just take my bottom two sticks and leave the stand in place.
Sean, am I able to access the pass printing machine or whatever 24/7? If so, that would really be awesome. I could pick up my pass after work around 7:30pm on Friday night. If that is the case I will give you my pass and a couple of my desired TA's and whatever I get, I get. I can adjust. THANK YOU for offering I really appreciate it. Brett
Nope, only during the hours they are open...like you used to pick up the old passes. Once reserved, you scan your card and it prints three passes, one for you, one for the car and one for them. When you are done, you scan in the left window and it makes a closeout receipt and you staple it to your hunter and car pass and drop it in the box. So you would have to get there before they close Friday or before 0530 Sat. But I can reserve for you when I call in mine (and one kid).

I am looking forward to a stress free/fun season. I am going to try to hunt on Wednesday for a doe then I am moving in on Saturday to kill a buck every hunt until I get it done.
