Hey I like the name and the avatar! Good job fellas! Wiaxle, glad I'm on your team again. That was a stud you took for us last year. 150" on the nose if I remember right. I'm really lookin forward to this season. My season opens Oct. 2nd. I'll be hunting mostly ETX in San Augustine county which is about 1.5 hours north of where I live. Good Luck guys! Waid
Thanks Txmarsh, looking like we should have a great team all around. Will say that if I can at all help it, I will not be shooting something my 6th time out for the season :D First time in along time that did log a fair amount of time in the stand, and I really missed that last year, I know the consolation prize is having meat in my freezer, but still :D My season starts September 18th, will see if I can sneak out sometime that weekend.
I think that if everyone put a buck down on the ground, we would probably be in the top 10, if we all got does (assuming where you hunt you can tag 2 deer) we would be in the running for first....
Brett and I can get two doe a day in some of the archery areas, and they don't count against our 5 state tags...
I can get 2 bucks in ILL and unlimited does, missouri is the same and kansas is one buck and one doe...
I've got 5 tags but but only 3 of them can be used on bucks, and then that depends on which county I'm hunting. I'll be happy if I get to use just 1 of them.
My goal this year is to kill one buck and one doe with my recurve. It is pretty simple. So you will see me say this a lot.... KILL
Pretty confident that I'll contribute a buck and a doe. I've been fortunate to shoot a couple does early in October and a buck in November for a few years now. I will hunt hard for a mature buck but... I dont like to leave a tag in my pocket so when it gets close to gun season there will be arrows flying from my stands! Good luck to my fellow teammates. Brett, wanted to scout Sunday, but I am taking the IBEP course at Belvoir...you ever take it? Its nuts there you can hunt until the end of March in Belvoir. All archery, all year long.
Sean, that is awesome you are taking that class. You will have Belvoir to hunt now which is 100% bow. GOOD pick up. I have never taken the class but would be interested in doing so maybe after the hunting season. I am close to Quantico and I am stubborn, wanting to kill the older bucks that give me hell on the hilly terrain.
I was extremely close to putting down a doe this morning. I had two different does come within 15 yards but they were on alert and were slightly quartering towards. I could have shot one doe at 15 yards slightly quartering towards but I chose to hold off as she was walking to give me a good solid broadside at 10 yards. She stopped behind some leaves at 12 yards and sensed something or cut my boot tracks and bolted....uhhhhhh! I wanted a solid broadside shot with a good sight picture in order to take my first shot with my recurve.
I was thinking the same thing. Your lucky. I am getting so antsy for the 25th even though I will only have 2 hours to hunt in the evening.
