Still grinding guys. One minute it's "I'm gonna shoot the next buck I can" then I see a good one and change my mind. Bad disease this bowhunting is.
I forgot about that doe hunt. I'm sure if I go I will see a couple nice bucks just to mess with a guy.
That is usually how it goes. Sounds like we are supposed to get 6-10" of snow from Friday into Saturday morning. Sent from my SM-N986U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Anyone heard from Fish and how it going? Tried to find out where we are standing point wise. How many points are we out by?
If we can take out a few more does and a couple decent bucks we will be at or near the top. That's all it takes to turn things around.
Then 50 by the middle of next week. Tried to get the snow blower going last night. No bueno. Not the greatest hunting weather at all.
Ok so I’m in the hotel Vandifort for three weeks in Springfield MO, I’ll go back to camp Christmas week that will be intense three days to find and kill my buck, for me first one in the optics , tango goes down. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting .com Forums
I’m still on jury duty so my rut hunting was pretty much limited to weekends only and as luck would have it all the good hunting weather we had fell on weekdays and nothing but warm and super windy on the weekends. This coming Saturday is also going to be really warm. Supposed to be a cold front coming through Sunday, but as of right now it is looking like it won’t get here until late afternoon and into the evening which really isn’t going to help much until overnight and into Monday. I am crossing my fingers that it’ll move in a little sooner than they’re predicting and get things moving for a Sunday afternoon hunt, but as of right now that doesn’t look that likely. Monday is really looking promising and they are saying that we should be finished with the trial either Monday or Tuesday so maybe that’ll happen early Monday and I’ll get out of here in time for an afternoon hunt. Definitely going to have my hunting gear in the car and ready to go in case that happens. Either way, I’m confident that at least by the middle of next week I should be able to get back to spending more time in the woods for the remainder of the season. Fair warning though, this jury duty thing has taken up the prime part of my season and I’ve got until January 1st to fill my remaining 4 tags (2 antlerless and 2 either-sex). Depending on how much progress I’ve made by Christmas I might end up shooting a doe or a small buck to turn in for my second deer score because it is very possible that I will be in a position where I need to switch over to rifle for the last week of the season to make sure that I finish filling up the freezer.
I’ll be honest, that sounds incredible to me. Hands down my favorite way to hunt is to go out after a fresh snow on foot, find some tracks, and sneak up on the deer that made them. It’s kind of like still hunting with purpose and is super fun and a really nice change from sitting in stands. It’s also proven to be really productive for me but it kind of requires that you have a wooded area to hunt thats thick enough to provide cover but not so thick that you have to push through lots of vines and branches and make a lot of noise. Unfortunately my area only gets snow accumulation prior to closing day once or twice per decade and I rarely get an opportunity to do it so anytime there is at least a 25% chance of snow in the forecast during the hunting season you can bet your ass that I’m going to do whatever it takes to get my schedule clear for that day.
Hope everyone is doing well. My season has been very quite. No luck with the bow but have been able to hunt a fair amount. Since gun season has came on I’ve been forced over to a specific public land area that allows both buck and does. It receives a fair bit of pressure at the end of year since it’s the only public around that allows either sex. Here’s to hoping for some end of the year success! Good luck yall, merry Christmas! Hi fellers. Had time for a hunt today. Drove 100 miles to my cabin. Plan was to pull in, start the stove, get dressed and get in a stand. Pulled up and deer tails flagging everywhere. Deer everywhere so I just sat in the cabin. Staying overnight so will try tomorrow p.m. Be to cold in the a.m. to sit.
Edited to add:, I had a real nice broadside shot at this buck (my #1) at 25 ya5ds last Monday out my back window but didn't do it.
Dave LC. Thing is, I have a bird feeder (you can see it) and some does are starting to come in and clean up the stuff the birds knock out. They just stared doing it a few weeks ago. I think it kinda cool to watch. So I made a self imposed promise not to shoot out that window. That buck was about 10 feet closer then that big ash tree (27) yards. Oh, trust me, I did grab my bow and had the window open but had to keep my promise. May seem silly but.... I'd did get purdy fevered up seeing him as he's been a ghost this year!! Season aint over yet waining but not over.
Sorry Dave. I deleted my post before you replied. I thought it might have been a bit too personal in your team thread. Anyway, now that I know your name I can say "You're f'n nuts". Seriously, I kind of understand. Sometimes you place limitations on yourself and refuse to drop below those limitations. I still think you're crazy, but my hat's off to you.
Lol, thanks LC. My best friend/neighbor also has been trying to get him. I think he'd "score" mid 150s but that don't matter. He's shrunk up now but mid Oct when at his peak weight, he was a beast. I want age over score now days. However, I want "need" to be done this season. May kill the next forkie that comes by? Lol.
Hey guys. Sorry Ive been missing. My hunt in Illinois was a bust. Came home and started not feeling well and ended up spending the week of thanksgiving in the hospital with Covid. Well fellas. Our dnr opened up the zone where my cabin is for doe tags for this coming weekend. If able to hunt, I'm going into killmode!
