I fear YJ's... I carried an epi pen decades ago, but the last few stings did not result in anything but an itch (I have had my face swell up so much in the past that I could not see). Anyway, I still try to avoid testing my immune system... I took this afternoon off to catch up on chores and build up kitchen-pass credits. -fsh
I dunno what it is but it never fails that once hunting season starts everybody and their brother comes out of the woodwork wanting help with something or to come visit for a whole weekend to catch up. And leading up to the rut in late October/November all the sudden somebody remembers that your uncle is their great aunts second cousin-in-law and they haven’t seen you in like 2 years so you get a text informing you that they are coming to visit you next weekend by the way, they are just going to crash in your guest room so that you can spend the entire weekend entertaining them instead of hunting during prime rut
My brother in law is ranch bound end of the month, a couple years ago he stepped on a nest when we were putting up a stand, had 8 stings, went to hospital. We now call that the yellow jacket stand. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting .com Forums
Was gonna go again this evening. Rader showed big rains coming (and they did)! Chilln and drinking beer instead of sitting n shoot deer. Is there a country song in there? Lol.
Here you go. Here’s the first verse and the chorus for you: I’d been waitin’ all day for the time to arrive. Knew I had to be be set up by the latest by five. The pressure was risin’ and the deer should be movin’. I was expectin’ success with the stand I was choosin’. I checked the weather forecast, what I saw ruined my day: The radar showed a big ol’ storm headin’ my way. Now I’m out on the porch just sittin’ here. There ain’t a bow in my hand but there’s an ice cold beer I oughtta be upset but I ain’t really sad. I got a cooler full of beer so it won’t be too bad. Yeah I’m chillin here, drinkin’ beer instead of sittin’ there and shootin’ deer.
I sat on an oak flat this afternoon - still raining white oak acorns and several big scrapes nearby - nada, just paying my dues... -fsh
Guys I’m taking a golf day 8:30 tee time, but I will be setting up a new stand next week. Good luck to all hunting today, As for the song, it’s very close to almost famous. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting .com Forums
Alright guys, I know this isn't a huge cold front, but so far it's looking to be the best downturn in temps for quite awhile. Also from now til the 13th, we are in the red moon phase so get out there in the evenings and hunt those field edges. We need 6 more does to really build this lead til I know you all will put down some nice bucks and win this contest. Here's what it's looking like at least here in Ohio and I'm sure most of your states will be seeing a similar pattern. Next weekend into the first part of next week are looking fairly decent out there.
Well I moved my cell camera about 40 more yards up the ridge to a different logged road they like to use. Sure enough two of my shooters finally showed back up. Middle of the night still. It’s been hard to stay out of there and not booger them out but deer vacation starts in less than one week and the temps are dropping. I think I might get a chance at one. I have a few other bucks I would shoot as well, not just holding out for the big boy. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I may sit also, got all the errands done. It’s warm but I had some does come by the cam at last light last night. I may actually sit on the ground and get near that logged road I was talking about. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Was going to golf this evening but have decided I may just hunt. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Been in the stand since 3:30. Haven’t seen a single deer yet but I am way back in some pretty thick woods and can’t see much of anything past 50 yds so there could be a monster 12 pointer just a few steps away from meeting his demise. It has been getting awful windy over the past hour or so and I am really starting to question whether or not I should’ve picked such a tall skinny tree when I hung this stand.
