I was just thinking the same thing. I took off yesterday morning but wishing I would have switched days.
I am a big fan of remote work during deer season. One of my properties is across from a wal-mart shopping center and I have two stands that I’ve set up specifically to be within range Taco Bell’s free WiFi. Both are 2-man ladder stands and I’ve got a tarp with camo netting over top of it wrapped around each stand so that nothing below my shoulders is visible and any light from my laptop is hidden. Unfortunately the range on Taco Bell wifi isn’t that great so I had to put both those stands in locations that make them pretty much rifle season only type spots.
It's kind of fun because it's like hunting a new property. I have some other area that are tried and true so it all won't be new learning for me. I already have some plans for the winter. My stand is in the creek bottom and it was thick to begin with. I'm kind of surprised it went all the way down in there to snag a handful of oaks and of course taking a lot of the samplings with him. The ridge top needed it badly and I think it's going to be awesome very soon seeing that we still have a ton of oaks up there but now it's open so hopefully they will spend all day up there when it turns to bedding area. Otherwise, it was pretty much just a night time acorn buffet for them.
n NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Well, only one thing left to do. Get back on the horse. Well, technically I mean tree stand but you get what I'm saying. Actually, hunting from a horse sounds pretty cool.
Just an FYI, proper horse hunting etiquette requires the use of a lever action rifle. Also you will need to purchase some cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, and a carton of Marlboro reds. Oh… and you’ve gotta make sure that at some point in every conversation you remember to let everyone know that you are a saddle hunter. And not just any old saddle hunter, but a traditional style saddle hunter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Sorry been MIA a few days, my stand is hung and trimmed lanes! Talked to the neighbor who hunts and I still have permission to cross on his side until gun season. (Only time he hunts) super nice guy. It’s thick up there and I get regular pics of bucks. Saturday can’t get her fast enough. My legs are cut up bad from how thick it is up there but that’s where you have to go to get them! Checked one of my cams today. I think I have an older deer that just showed up on camera for the first time. Won't score alot but he's kinda wide and has some pretty cool character. He'd make a really nice buck for one of my grandsons.
Anyone going to be in a tree or a blind on Friday? If so, good luck to ya. I'm just doing my last prep preparing for Saturday. Getting my clothes all washed up. Freshening up the corn piles tomorrow and one last check on the cams even though I'm about 95% positive where I'll be at already. Buy my tags online here tonight and make sure I've got my flashlight, knives, bone saw, grunt call, cover scents, boot spray. By the way, I just bought myself a pair of new boots. Last pair I had was approaching 20 years old. Damn good pair but they were wearing thin in places. Here they are. Happy hunting to everyone over these next few days!!!!!
If you don't mind me asking what brand of boots did you get and are they comfortable? I am going to be looking at getting some this afternoon. Sent from my SM-N986U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
A new buck showed up on my property Wednesday morning. Got 2 picks of him. Big tank of a buck!! He looks like maybe only a 140ish rack but he looks old. He was heading into my back river point. I could have hunted Wednesday eve but he'd be too tempting and I'd be sick if I filled my only buck tag this early.
Been seeing lots of bears lately. Couple real Hogs. I've shot alot of bear but not a true monster one. There is 1 around but I have not figgered him out yet. Gonna try to devote most mornings for the next 3 weeks working on finding him.
I wore them out once when I pulled cards and they seemed pretty comfortable, but you know how new boots are, it's hard to say until you break them in.
So 3 of my shooters are still frequenting both morning and evening in legal shooting light. Also have a new buck that I saw fir the first time today, but I'm pretty sure he's 3.5 so he needs at least 1 more year for sure. Then I noticed a nice new rub right close by my treestand. Here are some pics. Happy hunting this weekend guys!!!!! Let's kick some ass!!!!!
