Here he is I was sitting in a new stand we just hung as a observation stand on a big creek. I told myself if I saw a decent doe I would take her so I could buck hunt the rest of the year. I saw a decent 8 pointer about 200 yards out. Then about 20 min later I caught movement out if the corner if my eye and it went behind a tree. I stood up and drew back as he wasnt far about 20 yards but behind a tree. I didnt have a lane cleared in that direction but there was a opening. He approached fast and I thought it was a decent doe. I was surprised when I walked up on 2 little nubs. The ol rage done its job and he only went about 20 yards I double lunged him. He is considered antlerless so I still have to fill my buck tag! He drags a lot easier without all that hot steamy stuff on the inside!

With all the rain we've had - and it's raining today too - I can't get my truck back to this part of the ranch. So it's a long drag. I'll be stopping to rest a few times.

He expired by the treeline behind him and I've got to go about as far as the yellow arrow road sign that you can just perhaps make out in the second photo ... but not quite that easy.

    [IMG][IMG]

Edit: I left him in the field and went home to get my deer cart ... dang this guys was heavy!

Got him home and rinsed the mud off him and took a couple more pictures in the yard.

    Thumbs Up on the lawn.jpg

I took a video of the shot with the Tactacam, but it was too dark to be usable. With the rain starting just before he showed up I took my Canon video camera down from the arm and put it in my pocket. I did film my recovery and I'll do a quick edit and load it up to YouTube shortly.

He looks a lot like the one in my avatar who I shot last year in the same area. Last years buck was a 6 or 7 year old ... could be this guy's daddy.

Finally made our way back down to the hunting spot now that the flood has receded. Things aren't as bad as we thought they would be. We did have one ladder stand on the ground since the whole tree came down (ugh). Also, all of our food plots are done for the season. But, the rest of the stands are good to go and the elevated blind made it through (which was my biggest worry). Put all the trail cams back out. Including the two that text us the pics in real time. These two bucks came in early this morning.

I'm glad to see this one back, we had pics before the flood of him

This one isn't quite as big but he must be old. His body is huge!!

nice job on the bucks boys. I've passed 3 different three year olds so far. all in the high 120's/low 130's. Nice deer, just looking for 4/140+ right now. I've hunted every day since the opener and its been awesome. things are really starting to heat up.

Posted up to the official scorecard thread.

He taped out at 106 6/8 gross.

Here's the video I made of the recovery.

Well boys I'm back in a tree! Definitely a little crisper at the farm this morning than when I left it, a nice cool 31° degrees, should be a perfect cloudless day here in god's country. Got up a 430 this morning and finished packing everything up and then headed out, took my shower and got dressed as I turned into a popsicle. Here's hoping Rev and WTJ bring me some mojo today...or is it 'doe'-jo I'm wanting?

Thanks, I wish I had the deer's approach to my stand and the shot to go along with the recovery. Just a bit too rainy to leave the camcorder out in the open.

I'm really disappointed in the recording from the Tactacam. It was plenty light out ... only a couple of minutes before sunrise. Even with the rain I had no thought that it might not be light enough.

Seems odd to me that a camera marketed to hunters couldn't deal with those lighting conditions, the majority of the deer I've shot have been right around sunrise or sunset.
