Weird thing is I have a pretty good inventory of what bucks are usually on our place. This guy must have come in from the nature preserve which is adjacent. It is possible that it is one of our bucks I am familiar with that just had an incredible growth spurt. Ill need closer pictures to determine.

I am really excited that my Kentucky hunt is only 9 days away! I was checking the weather a week or so ago and it was calling for 93 degrees on the opener. After seeing this I was looking for some warm weather gear at a really good price. I found a full set for $25. I cant remember the brand but I'll post a picture here in a bit. Would like to know if anyone has tried these, know how they fit and how comfortable they are in the stand.

So long as you put camo on your face you'll be good. I see a lot of does and fawns that's it. I start seeing bucks in October. I may scout out a few public places as well.
Bronson good luck! Cant wait to see it.

Yeah 93 degrees, I think that's about what you'll need! I would probably go with boxers in Realtree Xtra pattern tho! LOL

All joking aside, I am really excited to be in the stand next weekend. Doing a public hunt made me remember what hunting was like before I was chasing mature bucks.

I pretty much just picked a random public wma in Kentucky and looked at topos then went and scouted one day last year and one day this year. Have no clue what’s there if anything. But I am so excited about going on the hunt, even knowing that the chances of getting a deer with in bow range in the two days, is very slim.

I hung three cameras around a month ago, so if they are still there we will have an idea of what is traveling there.

Reapers, Soul Steelers? Doesn't matter much to me fellas. Went and picked up the 3 point tiller from my buddy a few hours away last night. Its raining now so I didn't get to finish tilling everything, so if the rain stops I may run it more this evening when the baby goes to bed, other wise tomorrow. Need to go out and get some seed to plant thinking about some HW Secret Weapon or similar. The deer pound my plots especially when the ag fields near me are down. I need to get my stand down check all of the straps ect and move it to its new spot. I think id like to get one more hang on stand for the steep hill side behind my house 150ft of elevation change at roughly 45* angle. And trim some low branches ect.

Just watched the newest episode of BHOD, The Hunting Public and Growing Deer TV with my son ( turns 1 next month). Im pumped for another season.

Sounds like your getting everything sorted out!

I planted buck forage oats and they hammered them. One of my plots was around half an acre and they wouldn’t even let it grow. The 2 acre plot looked really good even in late season. It was the last thing green on our farm.

I took a walk on a new piece of public land and saw some heavy deer trails. I’m learning how to determine exact buck bedding area on the properties I hunt and try to hunt this specific bucks.

Just on the off chance that I kill a velvet buck next weekend, does anyone know if you have to strip the velvet to get a score for the contest?

No you do not have to strip the velvet off the buck to score it for this competition

I made another 1 day run to our cabin this weekend. I checked the straps on my treestands and mowed and over seeded my newly established clover plot.

We lease out a portion of our property to a local farmer to grow crops. The deer have been hell on his corn this year and have eaten huge areas down to knee high. The crop damage sucks for the farmer but I am taking advantage of the situation and I broadcast radishes into these spots in hopes I can get some food out there for the fall.

I also created a small watering hole. This is something I have wanted to try for years and have never gotten around to it. I bought a heavy duty bin and buried it in the ground. There are 4 days of rain forecasted so I am hoping it fills itself up with water. Rocks around the outside so I see it and not fall in, the stick is to help the mice get out so the water does not turn into a rancid death pool. This very well could be an epic fail but the pre-season makes you do silly things.

3 Weeks til the WI opener, its almost time.
