Went out the last 2 evenings and it's been good. Last light I had a real good buck come out of a Swamp couldn't tell his true size but he was big bodied. So yesterday afternoon I went out in the rain, sleet then to snow the last 2 hours of daylight same spot just a different tree for North wind. Biggest buck I've ever seen on hoof shows up on the acorn ridge 35 minutes before end of shooting light. He worked his way slowly to me stopped at 15 yds I was drawn back just ready to send one. He parked right in front of this very branchy tree so my arrow wasn't slipping through any hole. He stuck his nose in the air and knew something was off so he turned and walked off to the next ravine. This buck was every bit of 190" and I know where he lives. So after my being a responsible adult this morning I'm heading right back to that swamp. Hopefully I can fool him this round but he's definitely a smart one!
Dang I hope your right.. Come Saturday morning the boom stick comes out and I only get one buck a year. If need be I'll shoot another doe for the team score.
Same here. Muzzeloaders have been out since Nov 2nd but the general firearm season starts Saturday. I am hoping to get out Thurs and Fri afternoons for a couple hrs before work. We shall see.
Hoping the best for you brother! Those are the hunts we all live for, even if they never close the way we'd hope! You're in the game, play it as long as you can!
Sorry forgot to give a quick update for my plans...I was hoping to go out yesterday but the snow simply would not stop up here and I have hunted one of the two specific bucks I'm after for 3 years and refuse to lose the blood trail to snow or weather by choosing to hunt. Right now Saturday's wind predictions is going to allow me to be tucked in my best spot on the property for an all day sit if I'm able. It is the gun opener for IN, but haven't decided if I'll grab bow or not as that stand site truly only has 40 yards or less shot options anyways. If I do grab a gun it will either be my Muzzleloader or rifle, but that spot is really designed for a bow...and would be more likely to get a follow up shot on a doe, as we don't take does at this property before really late in the season or buck has been shot and recovery will already disturb the place.
Headed to the family farm around lunch time today. Two years ago I shot this buck at noon at the farm. This will be my first sit in the stand where I killed him from this year. Its close quarter in there. Hoping for a repeat today.
To my amazement the corn on the back 40 still hasn't been taken down... Every field in the surrounding area is gone. This is my opportunity.
There is really no way I can get out until next week. I can’t go after work anymore because it gets dark so early. I pray that corn stays standing. Would be insane. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saw nine last night at the farm. 2 small bucks that were chasing and the rest were smaller does. Trying to guess where I should hunt at the river lease today. I may sit the ground blind or hunt the river crossing stand I've not hunted yet. Decisions decisions...
Bone Head. Lets go! By the time you are in your 2nd hour of the hunt Ill be falling asleep after working in this miserable freezing cold all night. When I wake up....a buck will be dead by your arrow. I can feel it.
Gonna try to leave work at 5am and get in the woods for a few hours. Will be out a bunch this weekend. Last weekend before the orange army hits the woods here in Wisconsin.
Went out the last 2 nights and it's been decent, haven't seen that monster again since our last encounter. Tonight I didn't even see a deer and yesterday was does only. Nothing in range.......my buddy shot a real good one 150yds from me playing the next ravine down 2 nights ago here he is.....
