Won't impact us, but that was in a reduction zone so I just earned a second buck tag (must be used in a reduction zone) to boot.
Thanks man, that is a spot usually that gets just thrown in the farmers ag rotation...wet spring changed everything and he was unable to plant that large field....BEST THING EVER
Congrats Ty. Doe down and and big bucks showing up. Doesn't get much better! Sorry for the late reply. Just rolled in from the beach. I did stop by the river lease and pulled a chip. Anxious to see what I got...
Congrats, Ty! Love that the team is stacking up does early! Good jobs boys! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was shocked to learn mine was a button buck, but it still is an antlerless in Indiana and for the contest. Sadly no good wind predicted to slip on any of my bigguns at my place. I won't be able to get out anyways till Friday at earliest....we shall see what happens.
Couple pictures from my river lease pull yesterday. As soon as I can get a favorable wind I'm going to hunt the ground blind you see in the picture below. Had this buck roaming around. Need him on his feet in day light.
Here is some wild life I saw on my beach trip this past week. Crazy seeing these critters so close. Deer on the patio and turkey on the fence
My nephew almost has our shooting house at the family farm finished. Needs a more couple more camo tarps and the window openings finished. Should be a great late season stand.
How many acres is your property? And did you plant the sorghum just for a screen or do the deer eat it up? Never hunted around sorghum and the farmer that rents my grandpa's small field planted 5 acres of it. I have not been seeing any deer using the field.
It's a hybrid non-grain sorghum. That farm is about 70 acres, however only about 20 of it is wooded...but this year it was HUGE that 14 acres of a low field were unable to be planted. That screening is gonna do its purpose but the stuff if planted on better soil or at least when you should (May-ish) the stuff would be much bigger! We didn't get approval to plant unplanted fields with some small plots till July-ish and it was later July. The deer at this place feel much safer with the fallow field providing substantial cover that usually isn't there and off to the left of that spot just 20 yards is a huge swamp, so they're close to cover by just a few leaps and bounds....all that said though the action was much later than I figured...usually that spot is first 30 or 40 minutes of legal time and done, it was nearly 2 hours of activity.
Had a little 6 pointer come through on a new piece of public land tonight. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Wedding 2 weekends ago, terrible weather last weekend, and weddings the next 2 weekends... Probably the busiest October I’ve ever had. Need to find ways to get out after work. I get to work from home quite a bit so that will help. I will 100% be out this week starting on Wednesday. Run and gun time. Starting it off with an observation sit over the beans/corn where I can see a lot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What’s up guys hitting it hard starting this week, in a brand new set today that I just got permission on, thick bedding between two fields they graze in, run and gun setup day with the climber, in here till dark
Well I've got some work ahead of me still to find the bucks. Went to public Saturday morning and was walking to my tree nice and slow. Get to the spot and there's no tree. Move down where I know another good climber tree and same thing not there. So I randomly pick out a tree and get up cause I'm burning darkness. Sun rises and wouldn't you know they logged the area while I was up north working. I couldn't believe my eyes. Granted I don't go into that area often cause come rut it'gets crazy on that ridge. So needless to say I scouted all weekend after that. Found what I was looking for but wasnt the right winds after a few hours of scouting. Congrats on the deer guys and putting points on the board........on a better note I sent in my request for October 30th to November 17th for time off......got approved!! I'll add points for the team soon enough when I actually don't have to work all week. I head south after work on Friday again. Got permission on some private land that supposedly has one of the biggest bucks any local eyes have ever seen. So Saturday in the rain I'll be checking it out for the first time. All in all keep sending it into those pump stations boys. The best days are yet to come still!
Going to get out this evening and kill a doe over on my river lease. Yep that is right.. I am that confident... Now watch those words come back to haunt me. I'm headed to the ground blind that is in the picture I posted above. It sits on a natural funnel, and the does have been traveling it morning and evening. Got a stiff NW wind tonight which sets up pretty good for the blind. They normally bed behind the little pond. I anticipate them being up moving early tonight walking with the wind at their backs... I'll enter from the S and walk the wood line to get to blind. Should be a killer set! Here a map that shows the set--- Yellow circle is the blind location. Blue line is the travel path they have been taking, and the red star is the KILL zone!
I purposely try to find clear cuts and logged areas! They become whitetail meccas man, due to all the herbaceous vegetation explosion in the understory, I would definitely keep an eye on that spot.
