Not a bad idea to get the lay of the land and figure out how the deer are using it!

You can submit as many pictures as you'd like, 2 are mandatory requirements. Be sure to post them in the same post and not multiple posts.

Anyone hit the woods at all this week? Or are we all waiting for this weekend's cold front? Tomorrow morning should be in the low 40's here in N Illinois! So pumped.

I'm heading over to some public this weekend with the wife, I'll keep you guys updated on how we do.

I was hoping to get out but work put a damper on that. I likely won't get out until Halloween weekend now. A couple people have quit/are quitting in my department so I already know I'll be working next weekend as well.

Loving the temps right now though, hope they hang around until Thanksgiving. Halloween snow like in 2018 would be nice as well

I live in Arkansas but killed my buck in Oklahoma. Because of CWD, had to take it to processor in Oklahoma. I'll pick up meat and european mount Sunday morning. Taking my granddaughter out Sunday afternoon on youth hunt. I'll get rack scored, take picture of abnormal point and get it entered Sunday night. imagejpeg_1.jpg imagejpeg_0(2).jpg

Great buck John. I wish you and your granddaughter great times together.

Going to try to get in the stand some this weekend. My wife and I have been hit with this sinus infection with a severe cough. My energy level is very weak. Took a test it came back negative

Well I moved some cameras 2 days ago with the heavy rain coming in and I finally caught up with the one I was wanting to see. Now off to move my stand…. 2A909797-5295-428F-9F48-5A17B4C44B33.png

I managed to get out for my second sit of the season this morning. My wife shocked me after the memorial for my FIL yesterday and told me to go. I thought there was no way she would be okay with me being gone this weekend.

There was a permit-only muzzleloader hunt going on on my favorite public land piece, so I couldn’t go there. I went to a spot I hunted a couple of times in late season last year and set up about 50 yards from a rub line I had found last year. Unfortunately, there was a ground blind I didn’t see in the dark and I ended up moving right at daylight since the ground blind owner showed up right before shooting light.

I moved about 200 yards and ended up seeing three does but not in range. I got down about 11 abd scouted where I saw the does. They were eating white oaks on an overgrown service road leading into a thicket. Got good intel for the next time I try that spot.

My granddaughter is sick and couldn't go. I'll have to take her during the regular rifle season. I'm out hunting where my brother saw the big one. Finally got a decent wind to hunt one of the stands on my dad's. Today is his 90th birthday so I needed to stop by for a visit. Killed two birds with one stone.

Congrats to the folks having success and getting out. I have been out 3/4 times and not seen a buck in the stand. Some doe but, was not hunting doe at the time. Will keep checking back from time to time with updates.

Opening day is finally upon me! Heading out in the am! Temps dropped this weekend and tomorrow morning it’ll be around 42 degrees, great morning for my first sit of the 2021 season!

So I am feeling a little sheepish now. I was reviewing my mapping of the spot I hunted today in Huntstand. This was my first time going into this spot for a morning hunt. Last year I hunted it a couple of time in late season on evening hunts.

There are three pull outs to park in on the two lane highway this spot is next to. It is about a mile long stretch of WMA that runs East-west. The south side is border by the highway, the northside by a lake. It varies from 50-300 yards wide following the lake shore. I parked at the second pull out. I wanted to park at the third pull out. If I had parked at the third pull out, I would have avoided the other guy, and I would have been right on top of where those does walked through. The old service road led back to the pull out where I would have parked if I had been at the third pull out instead of the second. Oh well, I need go back to preschool and learn to count to three again I guess.
