What do you guys think of these bucks? The buck in the last photo is definitely a shooter. The tall racked one...well, I kinda like him too. :D
I would shoot both of them, 2 buck tags here. That first one looks a lot like the one I shot last year but probably has a bit more height. Second one Is a stud as well. I would almost bet they would score similar should you have the chance at both. I'd put both in the 135-145" range, velvet in the first is a bit deceiving but think he'd still hit high 130's. Easily 7-8" brows, but hard to judge mass after shedding velvet.
Oops, that's 3 bucks. 1st and last I'd definitely arrow, 2nd one would be whether or not the other two are around still. All 3 are good bucks regardless
Hey guys, just wanted to check in and provide updates. I've been out a few times with my boy and we've seen a few does. We had one come in Saturday that if she turned left it was backstraps on the barbecue, if she turns right I would have to get the crossbow over Matthew and in position for a shot that he would have to take without my assistance. She turned right and did offer a shot, but not enough time for him to get a shot. Antlers come in for PA this Saturday so it's game time after that. Good luck all.
Only hunters can understand. I am so ready for this weekend to be over and Monday to get here! Very rarely can I hope for something that absurd, and it'll be the only Monday for awhile I hope gets here. Not real sure what to expect my first sit, coming off a full moon probably isn't going to help matters with beans still in, but I'm optimistic I can get some meat in the freezer. Not going to be as cool as I had hoped, but should still be in the 40's. If things don't pan out, I may walk the land a bit and find a good tree to leave my climber on. Going to set out a trail cam as well. Kind of jealous of Fitz, if the weather models hold true he could be looking at a possible accumulating snow near midweek. Still a ways out but it's a possibility. Are we all in open season as of Monday or are some of you still waiting? Good luck, and hope to be posting some positive reports come Monday. Hanging the hoist in the garage tomorrow.
hey guys im back home and so is my wife and son, i wanted to thank everyone for there thoughts and prayers. After 10 in the NICU hes finally home and all is right in the world. Get to hit the woods Monday morning and ill hopefully get to hand out a dirt nap to a lucky deer, buck or doe it dont matter. I can see the bottom of my freezer and thats never a good sign. lol
Glad to hear everything went well and he's home. Family is always first priority, wish you the best. Good luck when you hit the woods Monday, an empty freezer is always depressing.
NPD, glad everyone is home & safe! Good luck on Monday guys. I'm thinking about heading out for a morning sit. Sara's family is coming up for the weekend, so I'll probably go grouse hunting with my FIL and BIL. But I think I'll sneak out to and set up on the far beaverdam where I saw the wolf lastnight.
Ditto. Good luck everyone! I'm still waiting on October 6th. Come monday morning, I have a week off from work. Desperately need it to put some finishing touches on my equipment and gear.
Hunt #1 report and let me tell you it was amazing even though I didn't kill anything. Morning started out well. I went to the Corp of Engineers ground that I fell in love with a few weeks ago. Found the stand without incident which is saying something for me I don't have the best sense of direction in the dark. Luckily it was still there and everything was sound. Eventful morning although I think they were trying to surrender because all I saw the first 30 minutes of the morning were white flags. While there was no wind to speak of I think the air just kind of drifts up the flat and I had 6 does bust me about 60 yards up. Around 8:15 a nice 8 came through and offered tons of shots but he just isn't what I'm looking for this year. Around 9 I started to get down and as I walking out a doe semi-spooked. She didn't really ever see me or wind me just heard me and knew something wasn't right. She took a few bounds then just walked off. Next comes the amazing part. As I walked into the recently cut cornfield I spotted a doe feeding on the edge where they had left a little corn standing. She was around 200 yards away and actually right next to where I have to exit the field. I dropped to the ground and looked at my surroundings to try and get a game plan together. She wasn't in the least bit alert just feeding contently. While planning I noticed the way the field lays that she was in a low spot. I pulled everything I didn't need off and started hands and knees crawling around the edge. Poked my head up a few times to make sure she was still there and not alerted to my presense. Luckily as I was crawling the wind started to blow out the NE which was perfect for what I needed. About 30 minutes later as I neared the end of the field there is a terrace. I was on one side she on the other. I got up walked to just where I would be able to shoot over the top of the terrace and got as far in the edge of the woods as I could. I figured I was about 20yards away from her at this point but couldn't get the range finder on her. I could only tell where she was by the tops of the corn stalks shaking. As I kneeled there for probably around 10 minutes I noticed she started working her way to the edge without feeding. I threw my range finder up and ranged her head as she poked it out. 21 yards. I drew as quickly as I could just as my pin started to settle she must have seen me, she loaded her legs, blew and took off. I could not believe that I had just blown the opportunity but its a definetly a lesson learned and THE coolest hunt I have ever had. My heart was pounding in my ears and the adrenaline was just unbelievable as soon as it was over. Funny enough the whole time of stalking and sitting there 20 yards away I was completely calm. Only after I let my bow down did the adrenaline really get cranking. I learned an important lesson though. Go with instinct. I was guessing 20 yards anyway and should have just went with. Had I done that I would still be dragging her out instead of telling you guys the story. Anyway this is and extremely memorable hunt for me and I hope you guys enjoyed hearing it. And to think this was only hunt #1. Just so you know there won't be a report like this for every hunt. Just this one because the whole stalking thing was very new, different and exciting for me. So don't be thinking "oh great one those guys who has to give every detail of every freaking hunt."
Awesome story, and don't worry about posting all the details, I'm probably one of "them" guys lol. Sounds like your new spot is working well for you. Hoping I'll be skinning one out 48 hours from now, unless it has headgear I won't be overly picky. I keep flip flopping on which stand I'm going to hunt.
Awesome hunt frantic! Sooooo close! Hey wait.... I'm one of "those" guys Atleast I try and keep it contained to my thread.
I meant more the length of the post more than anything else. I'm a horrible writer and tend to ramble. Your posts are short sweet and to the point.
In one of the 5 stands looking for me some meat. We need points and today when I wa in the garage I looked in the freezer and could almost see the bottom "not a good thing" but kinda a good thing cause now I get to meat hunt. Good luck! Just over 12 hours until my alarm goes off, hopefully I can sleep. Think I'm going to hunt the acorns right off a bedding area. Not overly optimistic with the full moon, but I may sit long enough to try to catch something getting up for a bite midday.
Everyone has different opinions on the moon but I've had it both ways. The only thing I know for sure is you can't kill ANY deer from bed guaranteed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
