That's tough man. Wait her out, and she should be done for.

    Good luck! :tu:

In other news I had an encounter with a big 9 point this morning. I was on my way to my stand and I spooked him up. Found his bed on my way out after shooting the doe. We stood 15 yards apart for a long time. He would blow o would blow and grunt back. He finally calmed down and walked off. Pretty cool encounter.

That sucks about the shot, but glad it paid off backing out.

    Congrats!

I've got 5 hours before I start my 6 days off. My uncle always heads to Missouri for the rifle season so I should have more options on stands this weekend, I just hope they're not on lock down!

Well got everything posted up for the score card. Not much of a story to tell. I got to the woods late, as is generally the case for me the first few days after the time change. It was starting to get light on my way to the woods and I decided to go to a stand I have only sat once before. There was a south wind and this was really the only stand that lends itself to that also its about the quickest one to get to at the land I was hunting. On my way in I spooked up a nice buck but. We stood about 15 yards apart for a long time and it actually got light enough while we were standing there where I could really get a good look at his antlers it was a 9 point with a split G2 that I haven't gotten any pics of since August. Was glad to see him. And found his bed later in the morning.

I finally got to my stand after that encounter and hadn't sat there very long when I saw a young doe on the other side of the flat my stand is overlooking. She walked down the trail just like she read the script. Went down in the creek offered a perfect 20 yard shot with her head down to the water taking a drink. I let the arrow fly and knew as soon as I let it go that I had punched the trigger. As soon as I let it go I as praying she was going to duck it or I had not botched it as bad as I thought. Well no such luck on either end. I hit right though her back legs and one of the blades sliced the bottom of her belly open on the way through. Part of her guts were hanging out and she couldn't use her back right leg. But she was bleeding a ton. I must have got lucky and hit an artery. I couldn't get another arrow in her because she went behind some brush.

I backed out waited 2 hours and went back in on top of a hill that I could see down the creek bed I didn't think she could get out of the creek because she had tried while I was watching her and couldn't. I got to the top looked down through there with my binoculars and she had gone maybe 30 yards from where I shot her in the creek layed down and died. I forgot my phone in my truck when I went back to get the ATV so I don't have any in the field pics. I posted a couple in the scoring thread and I'll post the same ones along with the in velvet pics of the buck I saw here, but I have to do it with my phone I can' t post pics from my computer for some reason.

Today was my first day of vacation. Didn't hunt, 75 degrees and wind blowing 30. Will be hitting it hard tomorrow. Big cold front coming through overnight and rain all morning. Don't really want to be out in the rain but you can't kill them from the living room. Hopefully will see some good movement with this front. How's everyone been doing not much activity on here the last week. I saw Fitzs heartbreak in his thread hows everyone else?

Work denied my Monday off, the main day I've been wanting to hunt with the strong cold front coming through.

Going out tomorrow in 40mph winds and will only have a 1/2 day as heavy rains supposed to come in about noon. Not having high hopes and not going to be picky. If something comes into range and I can get drawn I'm going to take it. Firearm season comes in Friday so it pretty much ends my buck hunting. I had my chance the other day and blew it, so doesn't look like it will happen with the bow this season.

Be careful. Keep an eye on the tree tops. I hate being in the woods when it's blowing like that.

Well slight change of plans. Its raining a lot harder than what they were expecting and they changed the forecast overnight to include a lot stiffer winds and heavier rain throughout the morning tapering off around 11. Think I'm going to get back to bed and around 10 I'll re-evaluate and see what my options for an afternoon hunt.

I didn't end up going. They upped the winds to 45 mph, had gusts to 43 when I went to bed last night so expect them closer to 50 at times today.

Wish we could use a bow during gun season

Probably a good call with 45+ winds. Know they have upped our winds to 25 and thrown in 1/2-1" going through early afternoon. Also, downed the temps about 5 degrees. Going to be a cold mother especially since we haven't had any cold weather yet for me to get used to these temps but I have to get out this afternoon. This cold snap and weather have to have them moving and I can deal with light snow much better than rain.

Well boys I'm back from my trip to IL and semi-settled back in. I took it down to my last day, but scored on a great buck. I'll put together a summary of the entire hunt and post a link later, but my teammates get the good stuff. Scores and pictures below:
