Moving up the board, congrats! Sorry to hear he wasn't exactly what you wanted. Is MO only allowed one antlered deer? It's tough making those split second decisions, I've passed in those instances and regretted it later.
You can kill two bucks with a bow but only one prior to gun season. I will bowhunt during gun season also which will give me a shot at two more bucks with a bow. Where I killed this buck is an archery only area that I have hunted for years. This is where I spend my gun season also, I buy a gun tag and bowhunt the archery only area. Very little hunters during gun season. Not sure how to post up pics so any guidance from team members is appreciated
If the images are on photobucket you can simply post the img code in the thread and that will show your image. If they are on your computer I believe you can go to the Go Advanced tab for submitting posts and upload them via the manage attachments option. I'm on my phone so can't verify for certain, but luckily we have Fitz on our team and he can probably explain it better than I. Looking forward to them, regardless of size all public land deer are a feat in and of themselves.
To load an image you can go a few routes. In the quick reply there is a little toolbar. on the right hand side there's a square photo button (right next to the film strip button for videos). If you click on that, you can up load to the site right from your computer. You can also use a photo hosting site like photobucket (which is free). You upload the photos from your computer there, and like cls said, copy and paste the IMG code into your reply. Finally, you can just email them to me and I can post them up for you if you'd like My email is in my signature. Again, Congrats on the buck!
Congrats on the lucky hunters.........no shots this last weekend as rain and wind = ugly. Did get the girls(dogs) out grouse hunting. Back at it again this weekend......not taking any vacation until Nov.
Have another 4 day weekend coming up, but Thursday is looking a bit iffy weather wise. Hopefully be able to get out for a morning sit, and thinking about moving a stand afterwards. But the rest of the weekend should be good to go. Getting excited for the rut, 3 weeks from now I start my vacation! Would really like to have some meat in the freezer before then though.
Troutking, congrats on the buck. Finch good job on the doe. Nothing to really update on my end. I've been out a few times, but it was very warm a couple of days and muzzleloader season had opened so movement has slowed. Still keeping after it and IL is right around the corner. Good luck all.
I sat today out, and tomorrow is looking iffy as well. All this wind and rain should be knocking the leaves down pretty good. The timing is just terrible in regards to my time off. Why can't these systems come through Monday through Thursday? It's deer season, never mind. I'll set the alarm for 3:30 again and see what the weather looks like. I'll be out Saturday for sure, have another system for next weekend so looks like more wind and showers.
Well, had a small 6pt come in about 7:20am this morning and heard some turkeys for the first 2 hours or so. Other than that it was uneventful. Trail cam had 237 pics on it, and much to my surprise not a single coyote. Lots of deer so I'm not as alarmed at the lack of sightngs as I was. The cam is facing west, just to the front right about 18yds is where I have what I call my ambush stand. I primarily sit in it during the rut and the bucks cruise this trail. Follow the trail around to the left there is a ladder stand about 50yds away in an oak where I sat today, watching all the deer come through this area made me put up that ambush stand. As the deer come in they are eye level. There is a big drainage ditch about 15yds in front of the camera with a buried pipe/dirt bridge. The buck I shot last year came from just right of straight ahead. As deer cross they are about 10yds broadside. The first is me leaving(youth shotgun so orange required) and next 4 show why I should have stayed, the 4th I believe is the buck from this morning. 6th darn tree, don't think he was a shooter but would have been nice to get a clean pic of him. 7 and 8 just show what I normally see most sits. Just not moving while I'm there this year. I changed the camera mode to video, probably leave it that way through the rut. The 15th had a lot of deer movement all day long.
Went out today, didn't see squat. I was going to hunt all day and then give it a rest until first weekend of Nov. But, now it looks like a real possibility I could be done for the season or at least very limited. Got word my work started laying people off yesterday, supposedly it's mainly temp workers. 8 went yesterday and rumor has it it could be 60-70 when all is said and done. Everyone has pretty much seen this coming, but it still takes you by surprise when it actually happens. Had a big layoff 3 years ago and I survived that one although we went to 30 hour work weeks for a couple months. Hopefully 8 1/2 years gives me a bit of seniority if it does get into the full timers. Time to put some cotton on the soles of my boots, I'll be walking on egggshells for a week or two. The feeling of uncertainty and the unknowns are controlling me right now, hopefully it's all for naught.
Sucks to hear. Hopefully everything blows over with minimal damage to your billfold. My brother has gone through those kind of uncertainties before and I know it took a toll on him. Good luck.
Well, made it through today. Really wasn't much talk about it at all by anyone. Management is being tight lipped on whether or not there will be more and won't confirm or deny the reported end numbers. Not sure what to make of it yet, hopefully have a better sense of things by end of the week. The initial shock is gone, so it's business as normal until I hear otherwise. I already have 3 tags, 2 bow and one shotgun so I'll be doing what I can when I can to fill those.
Cls...praying that you won't be affected. I could not imagine going through this. Troutking...congrats on your buck! I will hopefully be able to make it out a couple evenings after work this week.
Well looks like we will be getting some nice cool hunting weather this weekend finally. Really hoping to knock something down. Getting to the point though where it doesn't matter what the weather. I'll be in the woods pretty much every morning I have off and everyday day I have off. Was starting to get ancy.
