Well, it was an enjoyable time in the woods but a rather lackluster start to the season.

Went into today with high hopes of putting a tag on something by 10am. I was prepared to sit all day, but didn't really plan on it. 12 hours and 45 minutes later I climbed down. Seen multiple squirrels, a raccoon and a groundhog. I didn't see one deer on stand or on the property for that matter. First deer I seen, oddly enough, was dead laying in a cut cornfield just on the other side of the road. There was a hunter on the neighboring property so I chose not to stop just in case he had seen it go down and continued to hunt. Really curious if it was shot or possibly EHD, if it was the latter I fear the rest of the season. I'll check next time I go, hopefully this weekend, to see if it's remains are still there. Supposed to be a pretty good storm system moving through and bringing some cold with it. ND/MN could see some significant snow if it holds true.

Seen probably 15-20 in cut fields on the drive back to the main road. I'm chalking this one up to the moon phase, and sadly Halloween falls on a similar moon. I did manage to hang the trail cam, so I'll see what it holds next time out as well.

A bit deterred but not defeated, I'll get 'em next time.

okay guys sorry for thelate update but i shot a doe on Sunday around 1830 hours . Shot was awesome directly in the pocket. However I didnt realize I was shooting at Robo doe. She ran over the hill into the woods and vanished. We tracked blood for 5 hours that night and 3 hours the next morning during a huraclone lol. I feel terrible about losing her but i feel that I have did all I can do to attempt to find her. I got it all on video just was unable to locate her. Ive never lost a deer before and I hope to never have to again it truly does feel awful. Headed back out this evening so well see what happens.

Tough luck npd. Can you post up the video of the shot? Any way to get out there today or tomorrow? I bet the crows are on her by now.

It always sucks losing a deer! Hopefully you can get right back on the horse.....

Sucks about losing the deer, never a fun experience.

That's one thing I don't like about the bow mounted cam, its impossible to eliminate the shock for impact assistance. When I first mounted mine I tried to use 5/8" thick rubber sheeting to fill the riser hole and mounting the mount through the center of the rubber. I don't even think it made a difference. Let me know if you come up with something that works.

well cls im thinking about investingin the BOWPIX mount. just google it and youll see it. Ive watched several videos of this cam mounted to bows and it seems to do pretty awesome. and its only 25 bucks plus 3.00 shipping and handling. give it a look and see what ya think. Ive made like three different homeade mounts and all are functional just cant get the shock out when i make a shot.

npd...sorry to hear about the doe. I've been there and it sucks but life goes on.

My season starts Saturday...hoping I can connect on this guy. Thinking about doing an all day sit for the opener. I'll see what I feel like that day. I dread all day sits though. :(

I'm not sure there will ever be a true shockproof set up mounting directly to the bow. A few years back I was contemplating trying to make a forearm mount, but looked to be a little too involved. Someone else had the same idea, found a patent design for the same concept. I have a gorilla arm, but where I'm hunting there is no way I could get away with that type of movement trying to self film and can't guarantee where the shot is going to be for a stationary mount.

Hope you get on him, you have any out of velvet shots yet?

I hadn't planned on a full day sit Monday but was ready to do so. I'm kind of glad I did, bugs weren't bad at all for early season, but it also reminded me of stuff I had forgot for an all day sit. Glad I did it looking back, but a sighting or two would have made it that much more enjoyable.

Good luck Saturday, OT schedule should be posted today or tomorrow so I won't know until then when I can make it back out. Sunday should be a definite, but wouldn't mind Saturday as well. Going to be a nice cold weekend.

No out of velvet shots yet. I doubt he's been showing himself on camera anymore anyway. I might check it Saturday. I need to get to my spot kinda early because someone beat me to it last year. Good luck this weekend if you go.

Thats a dang nice deer Finch.

Got a busy weekend coming up this weekend. Wish I wasn't working Saturday. We are supposed to be getting our first freeze of the year Friday night. Looks like I'm going to try and go out Friday and Saturday afternoon then try for an all day sit Sunday. Haven't really decided where yet. Probably going to wait till Thursday night to really plan out my strategy for the weekend. I can't wait to see those temps though.

Going to get up at 3:30 and see what the radar says. Supposed to have rain overnight and tomorrow, not supposed to get much but off and on showers. I'll definitely be out Saturday and if need be at least a morning sit Sunday. Curious to see if I got anything on the cam worthwhile.

That sucks you didn't make it out! I'm about to hit the sack and go out for VA's opener. Wish me luck! I think does are off limits for me tomorrow....I want big boy to show himself. Who knows...depending on how I feel, I may just whack a doe. :)

Good luck, hopefully you get to fling an arrow.

Currently 35 degrees and clear skies. Hoping this sit is a bit more eventful than opening day was. It's youth firearm season this weekend, other than wearing orange it shouldn't have any bearing on my hunt.
