Went behind my house tonight and mowed my clover one last time and seen 2 nice bucks bedded in the CRP field after I jumped them, looked good, both heavy 8 points...Got 2 plots I will have to replant next week and fertilize the others....

Over the years, I have used a few attractant scents, and a couple of calls, all with limited success. I have found that knowing your hunting property, controlling your odor, paying close attention to the wind, stand placement, and knowing when, why and how the deer move across and within your property is very important. You can sometimes fool a whitetail's eyes and ears, but you will never fool their nose.

I pay very close attention to the weather, especially the wind, and the barometer. Weather fronts can and do affect deer activity. (It affects all animal activity, for that matter.) The past couple of years, I have been using an app for my android phone that tracks sunrise and sunset times, and peak animal activity based on moon phases. Some folks dismiss this information as "poppy-cock", but I have found it is very useful. Learning how to use these things to your advantage will help your success in the deer woods, and give you some confidence. That, and practice, practice, practice with that bow, and you will be ready when an opportunity presents itself.

Completely agree with Beehunter. I used to be a gadget guy in my younger years, slowly you find its all about hard work and attention to details. I seldom use calls, but one thing that is seldom talked about with successful calling is your setup. You needs to be in an area with a visual block to deer. Most do more harm than good when calling.

Pulled a card last night, here is a public land Michigan buck I hope to encounter this season.

So I just did a check off and we still haven't heard from ChuckC and Massbow413. I think they have like two weeks from team draft day to check in before alternates are assigned.

I remember reading your story of "Splits" last year! Splits is a beautiful animal, and the trophy of a lifetime. I love the mass he has, and the story of the hunt for him is a great read. I'm stoked about the team we have here.........I just hope to be able to add to the excitement and point total this year.

Man, I can't wait to get out there, and get going! You guys are providing great motivation! :nana:

I'm optimistic they will show up, checked their profile and try are both active. Haven't been on since 8/16 and 8/15 respectively. They're both fairly frequent posters, so we should be good.

That being said, holy heck I think we have a sleeper team here. I'm liking our odds.

    Team names:

    Out of Nowhere

The Abracadabras(we're going to make some magic happen)

    Champions or Bust

Incredible buck, I sincerely wish you the best of luck with that guy regardless of the contest.

Beings that you said public land and you have a camera out, I'm guessing you have a relatively secluded spot?

Its fairly secluded, basically a ridge surrounded by swamp. I got into hunting beast style hunting and scouted a ton of ground this spring. I have four primary buck beds in the area located, plan is to kill him as he leave one of them. There is a lot of pressure around the area so more bucks tend to pile into the area as season progresses. I also have a 130" ten located on the edge of the city limits, on public. He's a three year old but worthy of an arrow in Michigan!

That's awesome, just noticed the times on the pics. 1/2 hour apart, did he hang out the whole time?

Hopefully our final 2 log on before Labor Day, Fitz has said that is the day alternates can be requested. Still plenty of time, I'll see if either of them have posted an email addy, PM's only work when they visit the site next.

Never noticed profiles had email options, so as long as they both used their primary emails they should get them

I just purchased a trophy ridge static 9" stabilizer and Primos buck roar for my bow.... Going to take my bow to uncle's shop on 31st to address issues I am having with not being able to get it sighted in (think it needs a paper tune :) ) Also picking up some last minute necessities such as rangefinder,Hunting liscense, An extra set of Rage 2 blade broadheads, new camos since I outgrew mine and whatever else I want to pay fo r lol... I am stoked about my 1st year of archery ...I hope its successful so I can fill my freezer and contribute to the team as well

Here I am!! Been off of work for most of the week due to 2 funerals so I haven't had the chance to check in to see what's going on!!

Live in SE Michigan and hunt up in the thumb a good bit. Also have property down in SE Ohio that I primarily bowhunt only on. Looking forward to this year that's for sure!!

Some good names so far Powerhawk 11

Well I am heading up to my lease for the weekend to hang 2 more stands and check trail cams. I hope the 150"+ droptine buck I was chasing last season is still around. I will also be doing a lot of shooting with my son trying to get him ready for the season and sharpening my skills. I think cls74 would be a good captain because he is on the forums often and has knowledge from past competitions. I'm good with any team name but I think The Champs would be the most fitting.:p
