Nothing today. Had the uncles and neighbors dogs come down and run around the entire area I was hunting. They couldn't have covered the area better if they tried. Rarely ever see them down there so not too deterred by it, moved stands and had a tall racked 4 pt come in nose to ground.

Pulled the cards and was happy to see the movement has picked back up with the crops coming out. No big bucks but the young ones are moving a lot, started about the 23rd or so. Thinking my vacation should be a good one, just have to beak this funk I'm in.

I have a week of vacation after this Friday, and I'll be getting after 'em starting Saturday morning. The chasing should begin really soon, and hopefully the deer will be on the move!

Slight change in plans, all the talk in the min forum about lack of movement and rut action being slow I switched my vacation. I'll have a 3 day weekend coming up and the work until the 7th and start my vacation the 8th-17th. Hope I didn't mess up, but anything before first shotgun season should be good. Fingers crossed anyway

My week vacation starts on Saturday. I'll be doing all I can to put some points on the board. We have seen good deer movement, and I expect it will just get better in the coming days. Once we get this rain out of here tonight...........it's go time! Good luck everyone...........it's time to make our run! ;)

Well as of today my lady gave me the go ahead to go crazy with hunting... IT turns out my shepherd has to be placed on a Venison diet now and the actual food from the store is pricy... So I guess its time for me to try and tag out this year... That should bring in a few 100lbs of meat i would think :)

took to the woods on Saturday. Had a Nice spike come in about 25 yards. Sitting in a chair in the middle of 3 cedar trees so I had good cover and good scent. he was cross wind from me. Comes down the hill jumps a log then stops dead in his tracks. Did not have time to stand up for the shot and I have practices this shot on multiple occasions. I swivel my knees and come to full draw. Peep and pin behind the front shoulder. Heart Racing and ready to explode. shaking like a mad man. ( been Bow hunting for 20 years) Love this feeling. sure of my shot I pull the trigger. I watch the Light of my Nocturnal fly as strait as I have ever seen before and right on impact notice he stepped back with the right leg and i here the Car crash sound of BONE!. He tor out of there and I found the arrow about 150 yards covered in blood but no trail. Covered the area for about 2 hours and came across a small trial that we trailed for about another hour and the trail went dead. In a split second a perfect shot turned to a bone crushing defeat on my part. I prayed that my arrow fly strait and my aim be true. It was but I didn't mention in the prayer that the Deer stand still until impact and that was devastating. The only deer I have seen in the past 30 days and then I loose him. The best part is that I have hope he recovers and is willing to be taken in the next few weeks.

2 more days and my vacation begins. I'll be getting out for an all day sit Friday, hoping the trail cams show an uptick in movement. Been encouraged with some of the forum posts the last two days, hoping pushing my vacation back to next week from this week pays off. Doesn't sound like it's going to hurt anything for sure.

Illinois hunting is tough this year, uncanny in and of itself.

Hunted this afternoon, after the rain moved out. A bit windy, but I hunted a stand in the creek bottoms, so it wasn't bad at all. I had a decent sized 6 point buck come in minutes after I climbed into my stand. I saw him at about 70 yards, and managed to nock an arrow and dig my release out of my pack. I had him cold at 15 yards, but I decided to pass on him. He has great potential if he makes it to next season. He was not jacking around and browsing along like early season deer. He was nose to the ground, and on a mission. I really think things are starting to gear up here in central Illinois. Weather looks good for the rest of the week, and into the weekend, and I don't go back to work until next Monday. I really hope to get points on the board before the end of the weekend.

It looks like the boys are on the move looking for the ladies..........it's go time!

Well guys..........I got 'er done for Team 16 this morning! :tu:

I will post the story a bit later on, as I have my hands full dealing with a deer at the moment.

I have the 2 different required pictures to satisfy the rules, and I'll get him measured up later today.

In the meantime...........here's a pic for ya. I'm a happy camper today!
