Exactly! People hunt for different reasons and have different situations. Me personally, I have a number of nice bucks on our property every year. No way am I ever going to shoot a 1.5 year old fork. Just too many doe to shoot for meat and too many nice bucks so passing is not even a second thought. Other people on public land might only see a deer or two a year and that fork is a true trophy and took a lot of time and effort to harvest and it'll help feed the family. I don't ever want to dictate how someone else hunts and I'm getting a good vibe from our team. I don't want anyone to feel any pressure because of a contest. If we do well, awesome! I know we'll have some fun stories and share in everyone's successes and failures along the way and hopefully make a few new friends!
Good to hear everyone thinks along the same lines as me! It's for fun. My area is 1 deer per hunter. You get a choice of a doe or buck. I will be waiting on a decent buck until late season. If no opportunity presents itself, a doe will be taken!
Wow, I get four tags where I'm at in WI. I usually fill both my doe tags with the bow and then I have a buck tag for both bow and gun, but usually only fill one of those, if any.
Looks like the team is shaping us nicely, right mindset and all. I plan to be in a stand on the 2nd, opening day in Ky., The cameras have been soaking since July fourth weekend s o looking forward to some good intel. Flying to Santo Domingo tomorrow for work tomorrow, that's a safari in itself. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well, got to work about two hours tonight and got 3/4 of one of the plots mostly worked up. Virgin ground with an ATV disc needs a lot of passes, but happy with what I got done so far. Hope to do the same thing tomorrow and maybe get the plot seeded.
I have got the itch fellas. Can't wait to get into the stand and out of my office!!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Hey guys just a quick update. Me and my dad were able to get some cameras out at our main properties as well as secure a lease on some adjoining ground last weekend. Hopefully I'll have some pics to show everyone when we finish hanging stands and Check some cameras in September. I'm really excited to get out and hunt and love hearing about everyone's progress!
Finished up the plot tonight as planned. Planted a mix of oats, clover and chicory. Some moisture in the soil, but need some rain now to get it going. One more smaller food plot to do yet. Hoping to get it done before Labor Day or sooner if possible.
Aaron, Good mix for fall and spring as the clover and chicory will be the first to start greening up. I hope to get two plots in this weekend. One the same mix as yours while the other will be cereal rye, oats, turnips and clover with a little kale. The kale is an experiment.
Pulled a card on my lunch break today that had only been out for 2 weeks but was pretty disappointed only 7 videos, all were buck though. Not too concerned this is just one of the many paths that surround this tree, also noticed that white oaks were dropping their acorns on my way out so hopefully this will be a good rut area. The spot is loaded with rubs couldn't take a step without finding a new one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
