Got the aging results back for my sons buck Junior from Wildlife Analytics Laboratory. He was aged at 4.5 years old. This means that this buck was not the buck from 2014 like we thought he possibly was. I asked Henry (the owner/founder) how accurate the aging process was and he said that he was 100% confident that this was a 4.5 year old deer. Most of the aging mistakes using the cementum annuli method occur in a buck that is 2.5 years old or younger. The older the buck, the more certain the results. I also sent him pictures and videos of both deer and he reaffirmed that they were more than likely two different deer. He thought the 2014 Junior was 3.5 years old judging by pics and body characteristics and that 2017 Junior was 4.5 years old by body characteristics, reaffirming the analysis. He has looked at thousands of deer and aged thousands of deer so I trust his judgement over your average hunter. That means that 2014 Junior is still out there somewhere (or more than likely dead by some means) , but he would be 7.5 years old right now. Waiting on the results from Cocoa as well. Can't say enough about the customer service at Wildlife Analytics Lab. For $25, he went above and beyond in his correspondence with me and even double checked on the age of this buck to make sure he wasn't missing something. Pretty cool process and a helpful tool to make us better managers of our property for certain. Would recommend to anyone.
They guarantee results in 120 days, but the turnaround time was just over 30 days for his buck. You can pay for expedited processing, but I just did the normal processing and it was that quick anyway.
I have a bear tooth I need to send to them. Canines were about gone. Went out a few times this weekend and saw nothing. They seem to be nocturnal
Another season comes and goes with no dead deer. Tag soup again. Good luck to those still in the tree!
Sorry to hear that brother. This season sucked in general for me too. Our season is not over here till the 1st but it doesn't look like Im gonna make it out before that day comes.
Somebody motivate me would you drive 11 hours for three days of hunting in 15-20 degrees? Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Gents, From the score card it looks like AaronB is the leader so far. Team 16 - 424 3/4 pts Alenhard15 - 50 AaronB - 142 5/8 copperhead - 79 jlmini30 - 50 Cablebob - 103 1/8 Is anyone else still hunting?
Season ended yesterday and contributed all the points I could for the team. My doe hasn’t been added yet. I think we’re still missing a deer or two and I know Blackbear’s won’t be counted, but JoeP has a decent buck to add. Not that it’ll make a huge difference. Had fun getting to know most guys on the team a little better and was just a fun year for me personally with my son and I both shooting nice bucks. A season I will definitely not forget. Got the age on my other buck back and he was officially 5.5 years old. Thought he might have been a tad older, but definitely a mature deer!
Well that is a wrap on the season for me in Pennsylvania. No deer with the bow, barely even had an opportunity all year being that only 3 deer came within bow range. Did end up getting it done during rifle season on a big doe, but I wished I would have taken the bow on that hunt because I ended up spot stalking that doe to within 15 yards before I shot and she never knew I was there. It was great hearing from all of you and how your seasons were going and for the guys that are still out there, best of luck! Now, for myself, its time to get some things done for my upcoming wedding in October and also prepare for next season.
We have 3 days left but if no one contests at the moment AaronB is still the team leader. If no one disagrees then on Feb 1st I'll be reaching out to him in PM to get the address for the team prize pack. Im sorry I wasn't very active this year but it was great getting to know you guys.
