Had a few close calls this weekend but no arrows loosed. The property here in NC is seems to have gone nocturnal. Weird because I didn't put much pressure on them. Might be the yotes but figured that would make them move more at day vice night. Out of vacation days so its back to weekends for me. Good luck to all that are heading out and be safe.
Gun season over other than muzzleloader here in WI. Not many bucks or deer in general shot on our block so should be a lot of really nice deer next year. I’m going to let things calm down a bit and do some late season bow hunting when it gets cooler.
May head out Sat gun season ended in Ark, so things may have settled down. Going out for a nice big doe. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Rifle season right now in PA. Snuck out of work early yesterday to catch the last few hours of light and just walked an area of public land I have never been on before. Found a really nice spot that I am going to scout hard for next archery season. It is a large oak flat with one side butting up against a river and is surrounded by very thick bedding areas on 2 sides and a corn field on the 4th side. While scouting however, I was only out for about an hour and called it a night pretty early due to being completely covered in ticks! I lost count after flicking about 20ish off my pant legs. Once I got home, stripped down on the porch and found 2 embedded in my stomach. I guess the permethrin that I had sprayed on my pants and boots had worn off. Going to get some more today and try and get it done with my dad on Saturday. He hasn't been out hunting in 9 years so hopefully it is an eventful day! Still got two tags (1 Buck and 1Doe) and looking to get atleast one filled this weekend. Good luck guys!
Urghh hate ticks. Weird that they are still moving though. Recent cold snaps should have curved that back.
It’s pretty warm still here. Right around 60 degrees at the moment. We really need a hard frost to come through. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Man... this has been one of my worst deer seasons yet. Ended up missing a doe on Saturday morning at about 60 yards with my Remington 35. In my defense, she was running along at a jogging pace and I couldn't get her to stop. Usually I can make that shot all day long, but for some odd reason I almost felt like I was going to miss before I even pulled up the gun.
Sorry to hear that brother. Its been tough this year for sure. I've only picked up my bow twice this year with an intent to shoot. opportunities seem far and few between. But keep its it there are a few more weeks left.
Rifle ends this weekend in PA. Late season archery and flintlock start the day after Christmas and run until the 13th of January in my area. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
In pa, you can use your buck tag as a late season doe tag if you are using a flintlock specifically Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I have plenty of doe tags left so still plan on taking a doe, but just wishing if a big buck stepped out, I could let another arrow fly, but I'm content for the most part!
Well I got it done last night boys but sadly not with the bow. Its been a long time coming for me. Been in about a 5 year drought filled with tag soup up until last night! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well, too late to make a difference for the contest, especially since 3 of our bucks haven’t even been registered to the scorecard, but was able to harvest a nice size doe tonight for another 50 points. Shot it out of the same stand that I shot my buck from. One more tag left but doubt I’ll take another deer in all likelihood. Dark selfies on the back of a truck aren’t easy, but I think I captured it! Going to fall a few points of the 200 club, but a good season nonetheless for me with my son and I shooting nice bucks and capping it with a nice doe.
