Slow bite here on Leech Lake. One 20" walleye so far today. Fuel line blew on our way across the lake. [IMG]

You never know what cam happen on a scouting trip, had a two hour drive out to a WMA in Arkansas yesterday on my own, after a quick chat with a local at a gas station, he mentioned you might
see some Elk, I thought yeah right, twenty min later I look left going through some foothills in a valley field I see a cow elk, I pull over to view on a gravel side row quietly in my jeep. Grab the glasses, take a
peak and a ranger shouts get behind something!
You know what's coming right... about thirty Elk some large bulls, blow by my on a soft gallop, cross the road up the hill.
    What a day.

I got some bad news. This year will be the first year in 13 years of bowhunting that I will be unable to get a Doe tag in my normal county. I didn't realize the DNR had cut the tags WAY down and they sold out of doe tags in the first two hours they were on sale.

I got my statewide buck tag, and I'm gonna try and grab a tag for a county with some public land up north and just take my climber in after a doe.

I feel bad because this has never happened before. Our populations must be down for them to cut the tags down that much. Next year I will be on line at midnight and buy my tags right away for the county I want.

I'll do the best I can to get two deer, but I've only scouted that public land one time and it was a few years ago. I would have bought a tag for that county on the spot but I couldn't remember the name of it. (I never lived in that county) I'll be looking to get a tag this week and I'll let you know.

On the Up-side. I just bought a new blind from a guy who purchased a pallet of them from Gander mountain when they went belly up. Brand new with bag and chair. $25.00 It's the invisi-bull 2 blind. I also picked my buddy up one that is the bigger version for $50.

So I guess I'm just going to have to shoot a 200" buck to make up for the doe I might not be able to get....

Brother don't feel bad. It's outside of your control but it sounds like you have a plan. A 150 should cover status quo. 100 inch buck and 50 for the doe. Haha!

We have the youth hunt here in WI this weekend so planning on taking my son out for that so won't get in the bow stand this week probably. Trying to rest the property a bit for the weekend since we duck hunted this weekend. Hope to get my son a chance at his first deer. We're both pretty excited about it. Got the .300 BLK all sighted in and he's good from 100 yards. Hoping to get a shot at less than 50 to build some confidence though.

I have a nice fun filled day today. I need to go to apply for my passport for an upcoming business trip to Brazil (not super thrilled about this), and gotta change the oil on my car today. Luckily I "accidentally" forgot to grab my check book off my counter top which is over an hours drive away so I will have to pull the half day at work. Hopefully everything with the passport and my oil goes smoothly so that I could get out in the woods tonight!

Over the last few days we have received about 4 inches of rain... Not going to help the farmers about to start harvesting.

Man we need that rain here badly. Creeks are dry and food plots are drying up.

Started off really wet this summer in my part of WI, now pretty dry, but we did have one 3"+ rain a week and a half ago that kept things from getting too dry, but now we do need rain again. I think we will get a few showers over the next few days minimum so that should be enough to sustain the fall plots through the season I would think.

Well I’m back at my house now. Third sit in a row not seeing a single deer. Switching from private land to solely public land has been pretty difficult. Can’t seem to find where all the deer went. All summer long I had about 10 different doe that would walk past my cam about once a day but as soon as the season started they disappeared. Think it’s about time for a stand move.

Unfortunately you have other people bumping around and changing their pattern. If you guys have acorn trees find one with lots of tops under it. Thats where they will be. Good luck buddy.

There really isn’t much of, if any other human presence in this spot. Most people don’t even realize it is huntable because it’s not listed on the game commissions website. I’m gonna try one more sit Saturday morning and If I don’t see anything I’m making a move about 100-150 yards due north of where I currently sit.
