I remember shooting my first ducks ever on the youth hunt with my dad. Great memories for sure! The deer will be there. Family time is priceless. I can't wait for my twins to be old enough to go hunting with me. They are only 17 months. Any time spent making memories is time well spent!
Hopefully. There is a weird buck on it already with some does also. The buck has a nice typical 8 right side but his left goes straight down over his ear.
Here's another view of the giant 5 point I have on camera on PA state land. The night time picture he is about 30 yards from the set I hung yesterday Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here he is. Not the best pictures but you get the point. I guess it doesn't go straight down but weird nonetheless. More out of the side of the head.
Anyone getting out this weekend? I might take the weekend off, it is looking HOT in Nj this weekend. Not a fan of hunting in 85 degree weather Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm skipping this weekend to help a buddy remodel his cabin (future hunting opportunities will be coming from the help!). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Still waiting on the 30th here in PA. Just finished my first major project at work so I think my boss will have some leniency with me wanting to take a few days off during the season! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm getting depressed with the forecast here in WI. Highs in the upper 80s and low 90s this weekend. That's just not great weather for deer hunting. I'm sure I could still possibly shoot a doe, but I don't want to have to deal with the meat in hot temps like that plus winds out of the SSE are terrible for my property. Looks like the heat will finally break next week Tuesday/Wednesday so hopefully will get out one of those nights. Temps in the mid 60s. Winds supposed to be lighter out of the SW and NW so crossing my fingers the forecast holds. I want to get another 50 points on the board for our team, but honestly, need to wait for cooler weather.
It's been like that in PA also. We're sitting at around 80 right now but it looks like a cold front is coming just in time for opening day statewide! Can't wait Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Still got time to cool off! Keep the faith brother nice 39-42 deg. Opening morning ! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
My target buck showed back up after being gone a few weeks. Before that was getting fork horns and spikes. Might be time to sit a spell this weekend.
Can't decide if I'm going to shoot this guy or give him a pass if I see him on the hoof. Thinking he's only 3.5, but not sure if I will pass him or not. Thoughts?
Im going to be honest. Shots at 3 year olds for me are far and few between because I don't see them that often. I'll pass a 2 year old but a 3 its difficult for me to justify it with past history. I am also confined to 20 acre tracts so thats another factor. Ultimate shoot what makes you happy. I don't know what else you have on camera but if he walked by me there is an 85% chance I'm gonna shoot him.
It would be my biggest archery buck score wise (he's probably around 125"-130"), but I also understand that he could be a potentially a much nicer deer in a year or two. The problem is that when they are a year or two older, they are that much smarter and harder to hunt. I have a handful of other bucks that are right around his size or a bit bigger, but nothing absolutely giant this year so far although I know they exist. My general rule of thumb is a) shoot what makes me happy and gets my heart pumping and b) bucks in the top 20% or so of the overall buck pool are fair game. He would qualify for both I would guess. We have a loose QDM agreement with almost all of the neighbors, but my guess is this buck would not get passed by the majority of others because basically our goal is 3.5 or better or at least "at the ears", which gets some nice 2.5 year old bucks shot. First time buck harvests for kids or adults don't carry any "restrictions" so they can shoot whatever and there is no "punishment" for other hunters not following the rules, more so a gentlemen's agreement on the overall management plan. I'm leaning towards shooting him if I see him, but getting him in bow range is obviously easier said than done although he has been regular on camera so that usually means I'll have at least one encounter with him where he is probably in range.
Much to think about, I would break it down to simply this, if you get the perfect shot opportunity, it's time to take it. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Who all will be out next weekend? I'll be on public land in PA Saturday then hunting our lease in Jersey on Sunday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
