my friday hunt was petty enjoyable

morning hunt I rattled in a 2.5 year old 8

Friday evening had 2 trash pandas under my stand for a LONG time. Then had a button and doe come up, got over a 7 minute video of them on my tactacam. which i then left at the cabin....

toward end of evening saw a shooting about 60-70 yards to my north walking WNW. I grunted I tried a light rattle, he each time Id try something he'd stop and look over his shoulder for a minute then keep walking. Good to see even if i didn't get a shot.

on drive home i saw 2 shooters within a mile and a half of property, to me that means once rut hits my property is within their range.

Couldn't pass him up with my son along to help me. I wanted to hold off till KS next week but this was too good an experience not to share with him. Believe it of not is good buck for where I live.

Cold front blew in last night. It's now 33 degrees. James and I are on doe patrol today, put him in one of my puffy jackets and are in a blind. I haven't put a tape to the buck yet, he weighted 204 dressed hanging on the metal gambrel, which is heavy for my area.

Hopefully everyone on the team is doing well and good luck to you all if you hunting today!

Seen a doe and a fawn, out of range....only had a short sit as the boy was cold and hungry.
I made a batch of liverwurst....waiting for the water bath to get done.
Got took out some loin from my iowa buck last year and wrapped it in caul fat. Going on the grill later with Jerked pork chops [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Back on doe patrol. Most likely my last sit till I leave for KS next weekend. In a weird stand, 50 yards off my drive way next to a power line right away...never sat in it yet so who knows

    Mornin' guys,
I was able to hang a couple stands and take one down Saturday after our oldest's hockey game. I made it out to hunt yesterday evening after our youngest's game. Did see quite a few deer, which was really nice. Ankle is doing great!!! Still some tenderness from the "strain" part of the injury. I should be able to get in a stand now with little issue. Still need to hang a couple more and will be set. Save travels to KS, Jimmy!!

    Good Luck, everyone!!

What part of KS are you heading to? I'm sure I've asked that earlier in the thread? SE?

North central, mostly hunt zone 8 and couple spots in zone 7. I usually drive however this year with everything going on I was pressed for time... flying into KS next sunday morning and renting a truck for the hunt.

Now I remember. You flying in to Topeka or Manhattan? I went through the apprenticeship with a guy that lives in Clay Center.

Actually flying in to KC, I wanted to fly into Wichita but the times didn't line up. In any event it's only a 3 hour drive to were I stay

I wasn't sure when you mentioned KS. KCI is really having a make-over done to it.
