Hey guys, Thought I would post a few pictures of the bucks captured on the trail cams this year where I'm hunting most of the time. I think we only have a couple of decent ones here but I'll be after them.
Tree Stand was hung this afternoon, better then that is on the way out seen 4 bucks heading toward my stand that I have identify all of them from my trail cam.
Here are a few of the bucks that I'll be sharing the woods with this year. Lots of nightwork on my mineral sites.
Looks like we have some serious buck talent on our team. Do you guys have a strategy this fall? Do you guys hunt more early season trying to intercept a buck from bed to food or more a pre-rut, rut, post rut hunter?
I am more of a pre rut hunter because my schedule allows me to get more hours before the time switch.
Whenever time permits this year. If I had a choice, it would be the end of pre-rut just before rut. The chase period.
Got a new guy on the camera in two different spots about 1/2 mile away. I call him Buster. He definitely looks older to me.
You are correct. We hunt in Routt National Forest not far from the Wyoming border. We've had some pretty decent luck around there. Hopefully you're in pretty decent shape. It will take a lot out of you. Make sure to hydrate even when you're not thirsty. I got altitude sickness a couple years back from over exertion and lack of dehydration. St. Joe is where I grew up so I guess it has grown on me. Funny thing is I've traveled to a decent amount of far off places but nothing beats coming home. I just got married Saturday and as a wedding gift received Monday Night Football Tix. I'm a huge Chiefs, Royals, Missouri fan so I guess I blatant for punishment....
WOW, congratulations Mark. Are you taking your wife to the game? You know, you could always choose another team to root for, just to make you feel better. Buster has character. Hope you see him again soon. Thanks for the advice. The altitude will be a challenge but have put myself in pretty good shape (compared to the previous 15 yrs) for an older guy, dropped 15 lbs and built up my endurance. Now at a trim 187 lbs and searching for camo pants that fit I'm a bit behind schedule this year for the deer season. I don't have my tree stands set on the conservation land that I hunt but do have several ready on my friends property. With two kids the weekends are always full of activities and they will always come first. I hope to get some stands hung on Sunday but first will be heading out of town on Friday for my sons cross country meet in St. Louis. THEN I leave that Friday, Sept 17 for the big Hunt in CO. Already losing sleep on that one.
I ran X-Country in high school. Best shape of my life even now. I lift 4-5 days a week but nothing put me in better shape than x-country. I currently weigh 200 lbs but every year I lose roughly 8 lbs after getting back from Colorado. I am taking the wife to the game. She won't be very happy in the morning getting up for work but she'll survive. I wish you luck in CO. The rut should be starting to kick up right about that time. Can't wait for the stories.
Congrats on the wedding, Mark . . . and enjoy the game. So are any of you boys hunting yet? I've got a couple weeks to go before I can turn it loose in Ohio. PA opens 10/1 I think. Give or take a day. PA is Saturdays only, so I probably won't spend much time there. I checked some trailcams last week - here are some pics.
I will be in the stand September 15th in pursuit of Mr.Crabs. I'm hunting every evening for 4 straight days trying to get the drop on him. That 4th picture down is a helluva buck there Fran. I would definitely be targeting him.
My season starts in a couple of weeks here in Ohio. My work schedule is not going to be great during the late season, so I going to try to get out as much as I can during October until the time change. The land that I hunt is owned by a local government agency so my pre-hunting season access is restricted. Myself and a few other lucky guys get to hunt this property as part of the wildlife management program for the local airport. I will finally be able to hang my treestands next week. There are some really big deer on the property, but I do not have the opportunity to do the pre-season scouting that most of you guys do. Looking forward to a productive season.
I am horrible at making names, so just what everybody wants is fine with me. But we need one! And has everybody checked in? It seems we are missing some people.
