I have 2 different interviews this week, fingers crossed. Appears I'll probably hunt Nebraska this weekend. Plan, as long at it works with family schedule is to hunt the inlaws yard (they live in a community where everyone lives on 2-5 acres of woods) They have an elevated enclosed blind where my father in law shoots a deer every year but it isn't very friendly to a vertical bow so I'd be using a crossbow. I think I should be able to hunt Saturday morning evening and Sunday evening. Then however many dates I have from there. Its about a 30 minute drive and if the family wanted to they could come hang out at grandmas while I hunted evening sits. They have a rule I don't agree with but its their land, no does... So I'd be buck only and not too picky
I was out yesterday from 1:30ish to dark, saw 1 small buck. Went again this morning to the other side of my property and didn’t see anything. This is turning into a banner year, I looked back when we didn’t have acorn's on the ground and it sucked just like this year. Back at it again tomorrow, I checked some cameras on the way out and there a some small day walkers.
Father in law got a buck last night Says "just let an arrow go on a meat buck" Awhile texts me again saying he found good blood (sent no picture) Then like an hour later tells me he found it but was going to wait to drag him out because a couple other guys were still hunting (still no pictures) I ask about why no pictures, his response... deer is too small for that Then awhile later I get the attached with the message guess he was bigger than I thought. That's a dang nice "meat buck" imo
Was out Wed morning, saw nothing… went out this morning / pretty much all day in the backyard blind, saw a very large 10pt and a real nice 8pt but had no shots because they were in the thick crap. Also saw 3 does, gonna do it again tomorrow.
Was out again pretty much all day, 1 nice 8 and a forky . Almost had a shot at the 8 but there was to much stuff in the way again…
My morning inspection got postponed so I get to hunt the morning! I’m pumped, I think I have real good spot picked out. Going to do a little rattle here and there and see if I can’t pull something out. See you fellas in the morning!
Heading out, dinner plans tonight though, so I'll need to bail before last light. Light front pushing in tomorrow, so I'm hoping cloud cover and the coming rut will have them up today.
Buck down, boys! Will have to score him later but I got redemption on this public land buck that I missed (due to a stupid impatient shot) the evening before.
Just got in blind, its an elevated enclosed blind. Rules here are bucks only and I'm not picky, if it's not a spike it's in trouble
Hunted this morning behind the house, saw 4 different bucks. 2 of course the closest ones were small, 1 medium sized 8pt and 1 large 8pt. I hope one of these times they will come a little closer. I have a tree picked out for a stand but I might have to do a bunch of trimming which I really don’t want to do since it might bust them out of there. I will wander over there and check it out.
Doing a dark to dark tomorrow. We're going to get some decent rain tonight, but they say it stops by 5:00am. Hoping it has the deer moving!
Headed to the mtns (west nc) tomorrow to avoid the rain. Bear and deer season overlap so I'm going with a portable setup, bow and sidearm (just in case). Then sit in a tree dressed like a pumpkin...
Buck submitted. I was pleasantly surprised he went 144. He was a hell of a buck but I didn’t think he’d score as much with that broken side. Beam length, mass, and spread!
i have what appears to be good news on the job front. recruiter told me that they were working on putting an offer together for me and asked about a start date of 12/2 if that comes through I should be able to weasel in the week of November OFF I wouldnt be able to hunt our good land but would be able to get more time in to at least get a deer.
I have been out almost every day, keep seeing does and fawns, also some smaller bucks but nothing that I have wanted to shoot, although I have been tempted.
