It happens. Luckily you can still enter another doe if you get one. But also remember you can only enter your first buck you kill. So if you forget your pics, your out of luck for contest. Just keep at it and you will get the next one. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Here is the story of this morning hunt. I have this spot on public that over the years I have figured it out for the most part. It was a doe bedding area. Over multiple years I have found right around November 7 the bucks move in and usually by the 13th it's really good. Have had multiple encounters of some really big bucks. The crazy part is it's only about 3 acre bedding area. It's mostly green briar, mixed hardwood trees and mountain laurel. Small creek runs beside it on one side and a cattail marsh on the end of it. I've sat this same tree twice now and with a combined total of about 1 hour 15 minutes on stand and have shot 2 bucks. This morning I got in about 45 minutes before dark. Sun came up and didn't see anything moving. About a hour after sun up I did 2 soft grunts. Then this buck stood up right in front of me at 40 yards. He walked straight to me, but because of how thick, he had to walk to the side of me at about 15 yards. Let him get past me alittle and shot him slightly quarter away, high double lung. He ran about 30 yards then stood there. Then did a death run right back at me and crashed not 30 yards from my stand. Was just awesome hunt. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Great write up, Holt! You must have ninja skills to get set up that close with him in his bed. What is your mobile setup? Was there much wind to cover your sound? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I use the creek as access, so very quiet walking. Walk in the creek for about 150 yards. Had a steady north wind at about 5 mph in the dark, which helped alot. I use a mobile setup on every hunt, public or private. Stand is Lonewolf custom stand .5 and I use 3 sticks, the Hunting Beast sticks. Also a saddle for my harness and the ability to take hard shots around the tree. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
A lot of teams have put down some good deer here recently! Still a lot of season left, definitely will need does to keep up in this contest! We are going back out this evening after work for only 2 hours but gotta hunt when you can!
Hoyt congrats on another fine buck! Your filling the freezer good this year. Cbw congrats on the big doe! You'll get another one for the contest.
Yesterday evening me and the fiance went out and had little bucks chasing everywhere. She passed a little 6 point which I was surprised she did cause it would have been her first buck but she said she just wants something a little bigger. Told her to shoot whatever she wants. Those little bucks put on a show tho. The little 6 was grunting and pushing this doe, then he let out a long grunt/roar. Very cool to hear and see. Hoping to get her back out Friday.
