Took a spare climber and some binos out yesterday evening and for an observation sit. Hung it in a spot where I had a view of 3 different stands within view and saw 3 large herds of deer exit the woods by the first stand, walk right by the second stand, and eventually end up hanging out within shooting distance of the 3rd stand. Also spotted a few lone deer as well. Saw a group of bucks as well, one was a forkie, one a little 4 pointer, and the 3rd I’m not sure of as he hung back in the woods for a while and by the time he came out it was too dark to tell at that distance. Either way if that pattern holds for the weekend I ought to be able to put at least 50pts on the board (knock on wood). The only wild card is that it doesn’t look like we are going to have much wind. Direction doesn’t really matter since each of those stands are suitable for different wind directions and I can just choose according, I just need enough wind to keep my scent going somewhere other than straight down. The little red dots are the 3 stand locations. Didnt take any photos of the deer I saw because I was really exposed in that spot and wasn’t wearing camo so I didn’t want to risk getting busted and blowing out that corner of the course right before opening day.
Deer like that aren’t rare in my area… they simply don’t exist. I’ve never even seen one that’s in the same ball park. This part of NC is more of a quantity over quality area. We are mostly known for our abundance of does and tasty fawns.
Not looking too bad temperature wise for opening weekend here. It is going to rain most of the weekend but I don’t mind the rain that much when it is warm out. Rain also has the added benefit of really cutting down on the golf ball risk since all the ****ty golfers who hit a bunch of balls off into the woods usually stay home when it’s raining and the few who do still play are pretty dedicated and good enough to keep most of their shots on the fairway instead of flying past my tree stand.
I think you win for the prettiest hunting location lol. Golf Courses are always loaded with deer. Good luck this weekend! Still 3 weeks out for us.
Ok team, let me run something by you. Our season here in Indiana begins in three weeks. My spot here is over an hours drive from where I live. Being recently retired I don't want to spend a bunch of money on gas and taking time to make that drive several days in a row. Believe me I've done that and it gets old pretty quick. I thought about putting an air mattress in the back of suv and kinda camping out in that. It's a first generation Trailblazer so there's plenty of room to stretch out. I can eat pre-packaged food and I even have a way of making hot meals if I want. So what do y'all think? Anyone ever camp out in your truck or car and how did it go? I have! I basically lived in my truck for two weeks when I first started working. The only thing that wasn't comfortable for me was the temperature... It was Hot so I still had to run the AC some. If weather isn't an issue than you should be good. I had a few Gallons of water that I would refill at convenient stores for bathing.

Today was opening day and it was a bust. Never even seen a deer. Never fun on first sit. Be back at it tomorrow.
I say give it a shot. I've done it quite a few times. Biggest thing is regulating the temperature. Sometimes the air will feel stale in there while you sleep.
I finally got a good picture of the big 8 point roaming around behind the house. He's for sure my number one target!
Update from me. Hunted this morning and was a bust. This evening decided to observation sit over a marsh. Ended up seeing 3 does. I almost got a shot, but took off faster then I could get ready. Came by at 25 yards. They were on a mission to get to the oak flat. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
