So I really wish I was in the stand tonight but it ain't happening. It's about to get really interesting around here and everywhere else. Love this time of year! Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Same here, the wife and I have not had but one buck on the cameras in over a week. so much food in the woods right now they don't have to move far to eat; more acorns in the woods than I have seen in 20 years. Things will pick up around the last week of Oct around here, hope they do for you also. Good Luck!
Have not been on much, have not had anything to report. I will be heading to South East Shore of MD next week to guide/hunt. RuttNutt, my son, will meet me in Maryland on the first of Nov then on to Kentucky for about 12 days of calling and stalking them big old KY bucks. Wont have direct access to a computer for that time, so just because you don't hear from me for a while don't mean I'm not working on it. Good Luck Guys!
It was good to get out last night. Ended up seeing a doe and two fawns standing in the picked bean field as I was walking out. Luckily they didn't spook cause they were up wind, but they sure ducked back in the woods when they saw my silhouette along the tree line. Will be Sunday before I get back out now. Good luck to all hunting Saturday morning.
Finally able to get out for the first sit of the season boys! 4:30 is coming early. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Went twice yesterday at my wife’s grandparents place. It was cool to hunt there since I hadn’t since 2011 or so. I typically avoid morning hunts but I thought why not. Blew about 10 deer out of the field going in. Didn’t see anything that morning. That night I went to a different stand and had a button buck come in at 10 yards. I thought about letting an arrow go but I held off. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Decided to wait out this mornings rain and slip into the stand after it stopped. Been sitting in the mist now for an hour and half.. No wind to speak of.. just not the afternoon hunt I had in mind! Going to bail an head to the house? Got weed field to cross that will leave me wringing wet when I get to the farm road back to the truck. :-(
Good buddy of mine sent me a picture of the big buck he shot Saturday evening. It was trailing a doe when he shot it. Thought I'd share it with you guys. He said it went 166 green. Got some crazy stuff going on his left side.
Good news for me is the bachelor group came back from the vacation in Cabo. Bad news is they haven't given up their night time appearances and they are fewer and further in between. Only got 2 weeks left to make something happen but I took the next 2 Sunday's off in the hopes something will happen. Still trying to get it done out here. Best of luck to everyone else!
It'll happen! They'll start losing their minds for some tail soon and make a mistake. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Not sure about that. If the temps drop another 10 - 15 degrees on average they MIGHT get a little goofy but the temps our here are still in the low to mid 80's lately so even pre-rut is a stretch. But I'm not giving up, just hoping one of them makes a mistake when I'm out there. Rut usually doesn't kick in until mid Nov out here and then the season will have been closed for over 2 weeks. I hate hunting in CA! Can't wait until I retire so I can move!
Well guys got back from my trip to the farm. It was a good weekend of hunting. Deer were definitley on their feet. I saw one of my big hit-listers on his feet Saturday but never got into range. The next day the wind was wrong for that spot so I played it safe in another section of the farm and saw a bunch of does. Felt good to get back in the tree again! I poetically wind be out until the first weekend in November. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Man this is hands down the least I've bowhunted in October in the last 5 years. Made a hunt the 1st weekend, was super hot. Weather was better last weekend but I had a wedding for a friend that I served in. This weekend I am going to the LSU game to spend some time with the GF as an investment for later in the year lol. I am hoping I can get a doe down during the last weekend of October before I head to Illinois for a week. Time for some cooler weather down here. Still high 80's and super humid
This is the least I've hunted in Oct that I can remember too. November is where it's at anyway. Lol. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I normally don't even start hunting until the 25 of Oct so I'm actually ahead of schedule this year Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Got a call from the farmer the other day that he plans to cut corn Saturday morning on my lease if it doesn't rain. Soooo-- I went out after work last night and put in two ground blinds. I plan to be sitting in the one I have in a 7 acre patch of woods that is surrounded by corn field Saturday morning. I also found a bunch of fresh scrapes last night, and hung up 3 cameras over them to see whats working them. Here is a map of my lease place and where I plan to hunt Saturday. Calling for a WNW wind 7-10 mph. Hope my plan works!
Sounds like it will be good! Gotta love this time of year. Good luck. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
If any of you guys are looking for new camo, I urge you to head on over to boneyardgear.com and check em out! They are a small company here in East Central Illinois founded by a buddy of mine and he designs all the camo and garments. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I'm headed in to the stand in a few hours. Hope to down a fat doe and check on any new arrivals. Scrapes and rubs popping up in the past couple of days and already seeing dead bucks on the roads. Pre rut seems to be starting here. I may light rattle even. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
