My last chance for a real nice buck ended with last weekend. Had one great opportunity at a real nice 8 pointer until he got downwind of us at 70 yards. I won't be in the woods again until late season... Good luck to everyone, hope the rut activity is more noticable in your neck of the woods.
Its been really weird... I could have shot a whole pickup load of little bucks but I'm have trouble finding the bigger bucks - normally ill see them at least in the distance or something but not this year. Today is my last day of vacation for hunting - then it will be mostly just weekends. Also causing me trouble is that rifle opens this weekend and normally causes me some issues - I don't gun hunt but at least in SD as long as I put on blaze orange, I can still bowhunt.
Well I just hit a buck. Nothing big but this was the last day of my deer hunting 'vacation'... Not the best hit but I can see the arrow covered in blood and then I could see him bleeding really well. He only went about 60 yards and went into a little gully - don't hear anything but its such a nice day I'm just going to soak up some rays in my stand for a couple of hours before getting down.
SDH, nice I'm super excited for you! Let us know when you recover him and congratulations! I know you probably don't need it but I'll cross my fingers for you!
Yeah I got him. He was already pretty stiff when I got to him so I don't think he lasted long after the shot... I ended up shooting him on public land so it was a nasty drag out by myself in the dark - I'm pretty shelled right now, but I'll try and get some pics posted when I can... Maybe I can get my cell phone pics posted tomorrow at least as a teaser...
Well I felt bad leaving you hanging.... Here is a quick cell phone pic... He's not going to score all that great but he is a bigger bodied deer and should make good sausage, jerky, etc. :-)
He was certainly out cruising - he had his mouth open as he was walking so he was pretty tired... I did see two other bigger bucks both with does - but they were just to far (150 yards probably)...
Congrats SD!! Nothing wrong with that buck!! Nice job!! Well guys my buddy came back from muley hunting in Nebraska...finally...and helped teach me the whole scoring thing... soooooo...without further delay...my buck's official score is...68 5/8...please, please no flash photography, LOL!! Just for the record, SD made an awesome attempt to help me out, and was pretty flippin close!! Nice job again SD!
