Pulled the card at the millionaire property today. Big boy is back and semi regular in daylight, for now.
I can't decide if he's 3 or 4. Back and belly say 3 (clearly not in the pic above), but he has a saggy neck and brisket in some pics. He would have to be a beast of a 3 year old to have that antler mass though. I've got him eye measured at about 143". Does that sound close? And yes, I just snuck in an age and score post.
I am gonna say he is 3 for the same reasons. He is a fine buck. I got him at 139 so you're real close! On another note the guy that is having me over this Sunday to be gunner in the field test has offered me permission to deer hunt his place. Its 60 acres with about 20 being woods. Only stipulation is that I kill him a doe for his freezer. On top of that it is 5 minutes from the house! Gonna get a tour of it after we finish the field test. He used to hunt, but due to COPD he no longer does. I think he mentioned having 4 or 5 ladder stands already setup. Of course they may need maintenance and new straps but heck I can live with that!
Josh best way to figure out age an score is to let the air out of him on Saturday! that’s great Tony! Gotta love getting a new spot!
I might just sit out opening weekend and try to convince the wife to let me hunt next week's cold front after work.
Probably not a bad idea. I'm not convinced I'm going to go myself. Normally I don't have to worry about blowing a good buck out this early but it is a concern at this point. Knowing another cold front is coming soon makes the decision a little less painful. We'll see what info I gather over the next few hours and go from there. We have time on our side here in OH
I spent opening day at U6 soccer and car shopping. I might sneak out tomorrow morning to sit in the wood shed. Who knows!?!
It was a nice day. No hunting for me. Took the wife out for a nice dinner to celebrate her new job. Wind looks pretty sketchy for tomorrow. Cameras have been pretty quiet today. Feeling good about my decision not to hunt.
Screw it...I'm going in at 5:30. The big boy has been cruising through between 6:30-9 and should come from the SE (good wind). The bucks on this property usually leave mid October and a new crop moves in for the rut, so I'm not burning the place completely. It's not a smart idea...but it's an idea.
Good luck Josh! Hoping you get that big boy... Long day yesterday putting in new ground blind in at my lease. Loaded up the Kabota and used it to clear out the high weeds at the back end of the pond. Broad cast turnips and rape seed along the drainage, put up the blind and hung a camera. Forgot to get pics of the setup but will the first time I hunt it. With all the dry weather we are having I figured that pond would draw them in.
Got the Browning clean and it's ready to shoot at some Quail.. Hope I don't embarass myself today! Been awhile since I shot birds on the wing over dogs. Also just finished putting 6 pounds of jerky in the dehydrator. Hot and spicy
Awesome job Josh! Damn nice buck brother. Rack in up the points for the team. I am in the process of cleaning 10 quail and 1 chucker. Went 11 of 13 on birds today. Get to go back next Sunday for another test session.
