    Thanks so much!

No dime this time! I still get choked up every time I tell that story, which is not very often. This buck is very similar to the dime buck. I would guess they were closely related. I did thank my father-in-law for sending this buck my way when I found it. I do miss him dearly.

    Take care

I boiled out the skull last evening. I didn't get started until close to 7PM and didn't get done until after midnight, but it's done before the Holidays so I may get back out and try to fill another tag or two. Also, here is the photo that let me know he had survived from last year and that it was time to move in on him to hunt. The first picture of him was Nov. 13. I shot him 10 days later on my third sit on that specific spot.

How's everyone doing, things are getting nice and cold. I'm heading to south Texas tomorrow on a tag hunt, hoping to bag some exotics and maybe a whitetail or two.

Sorry I’ve been mia. Been very busy. Hunting has been crap around me. Can’t get on deer to save my life. The giant I’ve been after was spotted today by the Hunting Public guys and they are trying to get permission to hunt that piece. They know the land owner as well and I could see him allowing them to go after him unfortunately. Hoped he stays alive for a few weeks so I can go after him with the muzzleloader.

This is the picture that they took of him today from the road….

Last night was another to add to the most spectacular, most frustrating, and in some ways most successful season I've ever had. With bout 25 minutes left of light, i hear something slowly working its way right at me down the overgrown field edge. Im in my saddle only 3 ft high. Turns out to be a opposum that walked into with 5 ft. As i laughed it off, i catch movement thru the grass and hear multiple sets of steps. 2 does work past within 25 with no shot but then j realize theres a 3rd that had veared back my direction. At inside of 20, i have this deer broadside in the brush with head down. Thats the part that got me. Not knowing what the deer was i didnt draw. As its head raised, it spoted me and eventually bounded out. As it bounded above the brush i realized it was a buck, and not just a buck but 1 of the target bucks weve been hunting. The same buck that 2 weeks ago only 100 yards away i had at 30 yards with no shot and had to watch him walk away. Had i realized it was a legal buck, let alone the target, i woulda probably taken the risky shot. Oh well such is the life of a bow hunter. Ive had more big bucks within bowrange this season than i have the past 3-4 combined i think. Missed the past 4, but to even shoot at that many on public is a win to me. Have a blessed night and God bless.

Man what a crap year its been. Illinois was a bust. Going back out there after Christmas. Gun season going on here now. Neighbors killed a borderline shooter I really would have liked to have seen make it but thats how it goes. Dont blame him one bit on shooting it though because its a dang good deer. Gotta keep grinding.

My daughter shot a decent one last night. He dropped in the beans. We waited 20 minutes and he got up and ran off. Just got back from looking and couldn’t find any blood except the spot he dropped when she shot him. I’m at a loss. [IMG]

I haven’t but I’ve walked around too much I’m afraid. And I have no idea how to get ahold of the neighbor where I’m sure he went to. Can’t cross fences with dogs without permission.

Weak hit to the spine, temporarily stunned the deer, most likely not a fatal hit.

More than likely, this is exactly what happened. High hit that caused shock to the spine. I like to get on them right away when they drop like that for that very reason. I hope she gets another chance! Good luck.

Ya that’s what I’m guessing. I should have hurried down there but it was at the last minute of shooting light.

She may get a chance to shoot the same deer. You just never know.
