John, finally got Kyle and your's texts, bad service here. AWESOME!! We keep putting solid bucks down and we can have a chance!
Awesome!! Cant wait to see the pics. I am leaving the house in a little bit here, will be in my stand by 4:30. Didnt go out this morning for the opener, but will be out later. Go team!!!!
Well, had a good and a bad night in the stand tonight. Good is, I have never had that many deer around me while on stand! THey were everywhere from about 6:30 until dark. Bad is, I took a shot at a buck, but when I did, my top limb on my bow hit my bow hanger..... no idea where my arrow went, and now my string is wrapped around the top limb, and the bow is all twisted! Ater the shot, I got to watch as my buck ran off, and met up with another smaller buck, they started fighting, I mean really pushing each other around, and going at it. Then the smaller buck ran of, and the one I shot at came back, and I listened to it make a rub on a tree not 20 yards from my tree. (it was too thick to see him). After that, he went out into the bean field that the farmer disked not one hour before. Got to watch him feed or about a half hour. At least I didnt wound him, and maybe I will meet up with him another time. The whole time he was feeding in the bean field, I had a doe about 5 yards rom the base o my tree. She had a bad front leg, (not sure what was wrong with it, it looked all deformed) Oh well, looks like I will be heading to my archery shop to see what the damage is.
Just got back in. Nothing tonight, I blame it all on the neighbor kids. I was hunting a small patch of woods near a neighborhood, which is more like a "banjo community", where the kids we're lighting off fireworks. Oh well, still plenty of seaosn left! Kyle, I wasn't ignoring your texts. My phone died and I have terrible service back at the house. Did you shoot any of the coyotes?
hoytuser, hope everything is ok at the shop today. It sucks about the buck, but I hope your bow is ok.
I woke up to thunder and lightning this morning, checked the radar and a wall of water was headed my way. Went back to bed and its still raining. Smart move.
Well, only saw 1 doe tonight. Had her dead to right, all she needed to do is take about 2 steps to be in my shooting lane, and here come the neighbors 3 dobermans, needless to say, she didnt stick around very long. Damn dogs, the laand owners have had more problems with this guys dogs. They have even got the sheriff involved, and he told them they have warned the guy enough, and we now have the right to take them out, but they never stand still long enough for a shot. Really hate to piss the neighbor off too, he has a prison record.
Man that sucks having to deal with dogs.... pretty touchy situation. BC no problem, no the fricken yotes just sat by that slough all night. We saw between 25-30 deer that night but the closest they would come was 60 yards at which point they would catch the yote's scent and it was game over. Well the buck's been entered on the scorecard thread. I did the math in my head as my scientific calc is at work, if anyone feels like double checking me go ahead and then call me a big ol dummy for not knowing how to add. Score comes out about what I figured it would. It was supposed to be let go for one more year, we thought it was the bigger one that had been by on the trail cam the two previous nights at the same time. Oh well now the big one hopefully will make it through until next year. I won't be heading out again now for a couple weeks, but hope to get an ol' nanny down the second weekend of Oct., good luck to everyone out now and those that start in Oct!
Way to go on your buck Kyle. That should put us back on top for a while. I didn't get to hunt at all Sunday. Got up in the morning to thunder storms, lots of lightning, so I went back to bed. Had a family deal last night. Now it's supposed to be 90+ for a few days. I doubt I'll go out after work much in those temps.
Great news on the bow Darren. I don't think I'll get back after them till Thursday or Friday. It's just too damn hot to be out there. It's no fun hunting when the temps are in the 90's. Probably do more harm than good. It's supposed to cool off nicely for the weekend. Anybody else out there chasing them this week? I think we have 2 guys out west after elk and or mulies.
One week from this Saturday I will be the stand. It's really getting close now. 45 here last night. Felt awesome.
I decided to take a few days off from hunting, and try to get my deck finished at home. The land owner called me tonight, and told me he just got off the phone with the game warden, and wanted to know it was ok for him to call me, I said that would be great. GW is going to stop at the neighbors place tomorrow, and give him a warning. Land owner was trying to tell me something about if there are more then 3 dogs chasing deer, we have to get some kind of kill permit. Have never heard anything like that before. I was attacked by a dog when I was little, and the Dr said I am lucky to still be alive. I love dogs, but not these 3, i they were to be around when it is time for me to get down rom my stand, you can bet that they will die, or I will be spending the night in my stand. We will see what the warden sais tomorrow. I hope to be back in a stand Friday evening after work.
Yes we are!! It feels good to be on top of the heap. I'm gonna get back after them on Friday and then should be able to hunt the whole weekend. It's just been too hot the last few days. I hunted Saturday when it was 85* and I was sweating my butt off by the time I got in my stand. It's been 90+ the last couple of days. I figure I'm doing more harm than good in the limited spots I have around home in MO. Supposed to be a good cold front go thru on Friday, so I'm headed out after work. Hoping to put some more points on the board.
Next Friday is the magic day for me. I've been watching a couple of persimmon trees that have been getting hit really hard every evening. They are loaded with persimmons and starting to fall. One buck that is feeding there almost every evening is a dandy, I'd say over 150". Now, if he'll stay on the same pattern for a couple of more weeks and the wind cooperates maybe I'll get a chance.
