Well we got up and saw about 50 goats scattered around on different peaks. I only saw one that was worth a second look but of course it was in the nastiest spot of them all. I may actually burn that any weapon tag and wait for the archery only season in the better area to open on Nov. 1st. I've also got an any weapon registration hunt for a remote area on the south end of the island that's lousy with goats (the regional manager is begging us to go kill them there). A friend is talking about going down in his 90' boat for those and deer the first week of Nov. We didn't see any bears but we were pretty high up in the passes to see down into the rivers.

Now the downside... I've got to go buy my pilot friend a beer to pay him back for the flight! :D

Here's the pics for goat scouting so far:

Put some brown on the ground this weekend y'all!!! I'll work on the white!

Hey everyone, been extremely busy with work/school...I've been out a bunch, but nothin to write home about yet. Seeing a lot of does and fawns and a few little bucks.

Tracked a nice 125"er this morning for a buddy, the rut it just about on here...his neck was huge, and was shot making a scrape. Couple that with the two heavy bucks I heard fighting in the swamp the other night followed by the 20+ grunts, and the 5 or so scrapes I walked by...I'd say it's game on.

50*/W wind tonight, which means I get to step foot on the "back40" which hasn't been hunted all year. GAME ON.

Well team, blew it on Saturday night... gave a doe a good haircut. Rushed the shot, took a nice tuft of hair off her back. Man I'm still kicking myself, I haven't missed a deer in 10 years. And then to add salt to the wound I had two great bucks come by about 5 minutes apart from each other. The last one was the buck I was after this year a 140ish 5x5 that sat in front of me broadside for a good couple minutes.

John the pic i sent you was from my stand on Friday night... wind was blowing gale force that night and the deer ended up moving an hour after sunset as I had pics of deer when I checked the trailcam this morning.

    Rob those pictures are awesome!

Haven't been able to even spot a buck here lately. Transition week. Also, suicide week as old folks and youngsters will be able to walk the woods with rifles. I dread this week every year. My beans got cut though, and I will be able to see more deer. Pray for Southernly winds.

Keep after them guys. At least you're in the woods. I spent the weekend repairing rotted siding and foundation on the house. I swear home ownership ain't what it's cracked up to be! Once I get these repairs done I may just sell this place, retire and buy a 5th wheel. I'll be showing up at your house in the near future looking for a place to plug in!!! I figure by the time the last of my friends are sick of me my first friends on the list will have forgotten what a PITA I am and I'll start the rotation over! :D

That's a solid plan. I've got some electricity and water for ya. Just can't promise deer with two good sides. (I live too close to Rob.)

Well. I'm back from another weekend at the farm. And no buck down yet. Didn't even see any antlers while on stand this weekend. I did see does and fawns every sit tho. Man those bucks are making themselves scarce during daylight.

I got tons of pics of different bucks working over my scrapes. But all of the action is between 9 pm and 5am. No monsters at the scrapes, but a few good looking 2 year olds. Even got a sparring match on video at a scrape I made.

I was in the wrong stand Saturday morning. After my sit I went around and collected all of my sd cards. When viewing them back at the trailer I had a good 8 point standing in front of my stand at about 25 yards at 7:42 am. I'll post a pic when I get them loaded on the home puter. I think I'd have pulled the trigger on this one.

Gotta get something to eat and head to bed.

I haven't been out much lately as I've been busy with the kids and work. I have drawn out for the 2nd weekend in November at a premier federal wildlife managment area here in Oklahoma with traditional equipment only. I've hunted it before and had a shot at a real monster. Last time I hunted there a guy killed a 200" monster a mile or so up the road from me. They are in there but with a recurve everything has to go perfectly.
John, like you I've been seeing alot of activity on the scrapes but all at night. Hopefully the weather will start to cool down and we'll start to see more activity after daylight. Here's a young buck feeding on some corn right behind my back yard. There are 3 scrapes and a few rubs right there. http://s364.photobucket.com/albums/oo88/chrisstout5/?action=view&current=PICT0933-1.mp4

I'll be back after them this weekend. Not hunting any evenings this week, I have to work till 5:30 every night. Then it's almost dark by the time I get home. Maybe I'll pick the right stand this week.

Going out of town for a few days, but next week I'll be taking some time off and spending it in a tree. I usually wait till later in the season (usually after our rifle season) to take a doe but if the opportunity presents itself I may go ahead and take one earlier.

Had a great night tonight. Passed a nice 6. Saw a shooter 8 at a distance and then possibly 55 yards at dusk. Two other 4 points were in the plot. Things are starting to happen.

Friggin thing is. I have three stands around this plot. With tonight's wind, all work. Me and a friend hunted it. Guess where the shooter 8 was......yep under the empty stand. Just need another buddy I guess. :)

Isn't that always the way it works. Never in the right stand.

When i collected my sd cards last Saturday after the morning sit, I found out there was a good looking 8 point (possible shooter) standing 25 yards in front of another stand at 7:32 AM. :busted:

With the W wind tonight, I will be in the stand that would've, could've killed last night. It's really all I got for a W on this property. Hopefully we can get a repeat performance tonight.

Well guys I have some interesting news. I went to visit some friends back in MT and got offered a fantastic job oppurtunity. Now, I have two weeks of deer hunting left for 2010.

I will be looking for the first legal buck. By my figuring, few points is better than none.

Next year my bag limit will go from 1 deer a year to 6:nana:

Go get em Dave, you will be hunting the right 2 weeks. The action should be getting pretty good in those weeks.

I'm planning on leaving work early today to get to the farm in time to hunt this evening. There is a big weather front coming tonight and the bucks should be moving early.
