Have only been out 3 times since October 1st. My sits were pretty slow but I’ve seen deer each time, does, nothing within range. Big temp drops in Illinois this week so I plan on stepping up my activity. I’m off from Oct. 28th- Nov 10th. Still plenty of time to put points on the board!!!

Sad news here. Pulled the trigger on a doe 10 minutes before dark. Tracked it for while with just little spots here and there. She jumped my string at 35 yards. Lost blood trail figure come back in the morning. When we did coyotes were tearing it apart. She was a dandy too.

Sorry to hear that. A buddy got one one year we found the next morning with turkey vultures on, and a few I’ve tracked had wolf and bobcat tracks on fresh blood but spooked them away. Has to be a sickening feeling coming on to it. Can always take a pick with bow and what’s left I think as score. Hopefully doesn’t happen again. Might have to see if you can get ahold of some of them as well

Guess I never thought of taking a picture at the time. Was pretty bummed out. Was looking to some fresh back straps. By the looks of the shot placement Im not a hundred percent sure what I hit just jumped enough to give me the wrong angle. Makes me sick thinking of it maybe dying slowly. Sure hope that wasn't the case. Made it 150 yards through some thick brush

Don’t blame you there at all. It’s always about the worst feeling and an inevitable one after enough hunting for everyone. Maybe some redeeming value is closure of finding. Years back I had a good looking hit on great buck. Was an unreal scenerio. Many many hours looking with myself and buddies and no luck, and never to be seen again. Last good buck I had around too for little more salt in the wound to not knowing. Hopefully it was one of the off hits that shut her down quicker than expect and enough shock at least to be painless as possible. Hang in there and next one will hit right and work out.

That sucks! But, we all experience similar situations if we hunt long enough.

Slight problem. Got this little fella patterned. Have a ldder stand there, but not a suitable bow stand. Muzzle loader opens Saturday. If I kill him I can't get another buck in Ky with a bow. Don’t want to let the team down. Could maybe go out of state and get a buck with a bow, but maybe not. Please advise.

That's a great looking buck! Why can't you use your bow from the stand?

I’d say do what works for you, teams a bonus. He’s an awesome buck and if it came to same or similar situation I’d take him how I legitimately could. If I’m still with nothing by rifle time I’ll likely do some sits with rifle in stands that aren’t bow friendly just to open different opportunities too, and same thing, if I shoot a buck and don’t have someone with for party tagging I’m done for season here. I’ll be pretty stoked to see you get him down however it is. And if can get out of state and poke another for the team definitely all the better. If you’re good with holding off or focusing on bow then awesome too. No worries from me anyway, I’ll be happy seeing any successes here.

The ladder stand I have there is abot 50 yards from where he is showing up. It sticks out of the tree line pretty much because its on a power line and the power company cut all the trees along the line except that one. Good enough for a gun,but pretty dicey with a bow.
Another option might be to sneak in and hang a stand in the right place, but that’s pretty risky.

On another note. If I tag out here do any of you know anybody who might want to swap a hunt in Ohio,Illinois or especially Indiana ?
I have a TON of good hunting here.

Good luck with the buck. I wouldn't let this contest change anything about how you hunt. This is for fun. If you want to go after with a bow go get that hang on up or try for muzzleloader.

I pulled cards 2 days ago. Nothing to get excited about. I'll be out this weekend Saturday night and Sunday morning. Hope to get a doe down, but I would be ok with Mr Booner coming by also.

Good luck out there. Should start getting some deer down soon.

Went and looked at ladder again. No way I can hang a stand or use a climber on side of power line where camera is. Sooo I tried to figure the most likely path through the weedsand put out a small pile of corn to hopefully stop him coming or going.
    Gonna go tomorrow morning.
If that fails We are going to our cabin in another county to spend the night tomorrow night and maybe I can at least get a shot at a doe. I’ll let you know how it works out.
