No biggy. The grandfather of one of the girls I coach has some property with axis on it. I may try it out at the end of the year. Just thought I'd ask in case it could've been used as a bonus. I'll just have to take down two whitetail then

Well the truck is packed and tomorrow morning at work will be long!!! I'm headed west for antelope at noon. I have one buck in particular on private land but if he doesn't cooperate we may strike out and try somewhere else. I'll try to get some pics regardless but hopefully they are of the grip and grin variety!

This is from my uncle's first trail camera pics on his farm in Missouri - where I will be hunting the first week in November. Hopefully more to come. [IMG]

A couple of decent mulies wandered in while we were cooking dinner. My big antelope from last year seems to be AWOL but I would have been surprised if he made it anyway. A couple up and comers to chase around tomorrow. IMG_20170818_201033.jpg IMG_20170818_201014.jpg

This is the biggest deer that I have on camera this year. Maybe a few more will show up. I'd feel very fortunate to get a shot at this guy. 07260102.jpg

Here are some of the bucks I'll be chasing after this fall. I haven't checked my cards in awhile so hopefully on the next pull I will have more of these deer. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Well gents opening day was a bust for me. Temps were just too hot and the deer weren't moving around at all. Didn't even go to my blind since I haven't had any daylight pictures of bucks. I went up to another area with a buddy. Saw quite a few hunters but no deer. Also figured out most likely why my other property with my cameras has slowed down. The turkeys on the property are driving the owner a little nuts. He's been shooting them like they are VC from Vietnam. Unfortunately he's also leaving the carcasses for the buzzards. Found 3 dead turkey yesterday when I swung by to check my cameras and smelled them WAY before I found them. I have a feeling the deer don't like the smell of rotting flesh. Maybe he'll slow down a bit and when the buzzards clean up what's left, the deer will start coming back a bit. Getting the temps out of the high 90's will help too. but we'll see what happens. Sometimes the best thing about deer is they are unpredictable.

I love hunting and all, but I'm not about to do it when it's 90+ outside. Forget that business.

It takes some pre-planning. We had 240 gallons worth of coolers and ice just in case. A lot of people say antelope is gamey tasting but that's after they were chased across the prairie and stacked in the pickup in the heat. My brother antelope last year that was dressed boned and in the cooler within an hour was some of the best meat I've ever had.
I wasn't ready to tag a doe on the first day but I did have 6 within 30 yards.

This is the "Bachelor Group" in the clover. Dad watches them from the porch most every night.

Technically yes but he's not shooting them for meat. Not to say it's right but he's not hunting, more of an eradication thing. He's shooting them because he doesn't like them on the property and he considers them a nuisance. I'm gonna see if I can get him to stop and promise I'll take out a bunch this fall, but seeing as it's the only private property I have to hunt, I don't wanna push too hard. It's also the first year I've done any significant hunting on the property and really don't want to have him mad at me. Although I haven't seen nearly as many on my camera's in the last week so I think they got the hint. Let's hope so!

It's a different climate. The deer are used to it being hotter. Mid 80's is cool around here for this time of year. It could easily be 105 or a bit hotter. I can deal a bit better with heat rather than cold too so it works.
