I would be in the woods on opening day if my girlfriends birthday didn't fall on that same weekend. Can't really get out of that one lol
At the beginning of my season I couldn't imagine my initial #1 would get bumped BUT HE JUST DID!!!!!!! OMFG this guy just showed up on my camera Monday night and again last night with just enough light left. (I'd upload the video but it says it's too big.) This is easily the biggest buck I've ever seen anywhere near where I've hunted and he's walked by my blind within 15 yards the last 2 nights! When did Colorado bucks migrate to California? My season opens again Saturday and I probably won't be able to sleep for a week!
Jedi, Your in No. Cali? I didn't know the hybrids were that far North. I always thought (and I'm not an expert) that the hybrids were more likely in So. Ca. Desert mountain regions, but obviously they are all up and down the state. Interesting. Great buck teammate. I hope you get the chance. Shoot straight!!!! So this season is going to be a pretty special one for me. Coming this March my little tribe of 2 will be welcoming an addition. It will be my first born, so needless to say I'm ecstatic. I know for fact my spring turkey season can be kissed goodbye. I'm sure it will affect the amount of time I can spend hunting at least until the kid gets old enough. So until then I'm going to enjoy my last deer season of independence and freedom. So wish me luck and lets make this deer season a good one! Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.
Well it depends on how you look at it. From Boone & Crocket's perspective the dividing line runs North/South not East/West. HWY 99 is the dividing line and West of 99 to the coast is pure considered blacktail and East is considered the hybrid. I happen to be East of 99. Personally it's kinda BS because the bucks in my area are about 99% blacktail but I guess they have to put a line somewhere and that's where they put it. Regardless that buck is a GIANT for my area and I just pray I get a shot at him. Unfortunately if I were to try and get a Boone & Crocket score, he would be scored against mule deer which puts him on the smaller side.
I read an article by Chuck Adams recently that you can have your deer genetically tested and scored by the correct in species California. Are you in that same area?
Been tied up with work all week. I am going to head out for an afternoon hunt today and sit in the heat !!! Dave
Finally somebody on our team is in the actually HUNTING!!! Good luck Dave! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
