That was the only thing I could come up with. First year on the property, so have no idea of their fall routine yet.
Some Southern Maryland bucks in the 'hood... It's a matter of time in the saddle with a horseshoe up my a**, lol. -fsh
Hell, I don't know. Thought it would take 6 aye's and think you are number 3. As far as the contest/hunting goes, I'm in limbo until an hour before sunrise Oct. 1st. Can't scout for some dumb reason so other than a map not much I can do until then. T-minus 25 days and counting.....
First sit is on Thursday morning. Some how my loving wife saw my vacation schedule and thought, "Lion King tickets for Wednesday night would be great since you're off that day!" So yeah. Pack for camp, go see Lion King, go home and crash, wake up at 3am to drive the hour to then hike the 30- hour in, fall asleep against my tree. Hopefully there's no ants and termites on my tree. I'm super excited though.
That Japanese flag layer was hard to work with and even harder to find one that worked well with the background. Here are some attempts at adding a little flair to make it pop. Also, here’s my Aye for @cls74
I thought the first one you did was real good. Your good with the editing skills. Either the original or #2 is my vote.
It's all good man, it's hard to describe what I was thinking. Wasn't so much a sun in the background but just the pattern overlayed above the horizon but keeping the same coloring as the original.
So looks like everyone has been on the forums awhile, Agi being the newest at 2 1/2 years. Doesn't really mean anything though as my experience over the years it is usually a long timer that fails to follow rules. Does anyone have questions or uncertainties to the rules or requirements of the contest? A few suggestions, especially if you take your deer to a processor or hopefully a taxidermist. This is meant towards no one specifically, but after last season I told myself should I participate and be captain again I'd try a different approach. Once you recover, tag your deer and take your photos. Don't forget your bow! Two different pics, not one pic with 2 different crops, that doesn't work. No one there to take a pic for you is not an excuse. Nature is filled with tripods and most phones have timers for the camera. I've used everything from a bush nearby to a couple forked sticks stuck in the ground and another to help prop the phone up. Hell, I even made this out of a broken arrow, old tree step and an aluminum splint from a broken finger When possible, don't rely on a taxidermist to score it for you or to pick up the antlers from the processor. Using a local reason for the processor. Friend/coworker took his in and told them he wanted the skull cap back, when he went to pick everything up they lost his antlers and told him to come back after the season was over, they'd have a barrel full and he could pick one out Every buck(except button) will have at least 11 scores to total up. 2 main beams(spike is length of each spike above burr) , 1 inside spread and 8 circumfrences(4 each side). So if you shoot a smaller 4pt or basket, don't assume it's a fergie clause and 50 points, throw a tape on it for practice/fun. Shoot what you want, not what the team would want. The contest is for fun, meat in the freezer is for food. You signed up for a contest, do your part to participate. Check in every now and then to let everyone know you're still out or when you are done, mostly happens late season. Lastly, if you fail to do the above I'll haunt you. There's no bigger letdown for a team than points left off the board, and I'll remind you of that if neccessary, even if in last place with 12 hours left
I'll really only have questions about the scoring I'm sure. I will be doing most everything my self. Euro mount, processing, the tanning my wife wants to do. I recall reading something about mule deer and black tail will not have a multiplier. I guess it doesn't matter as long as I follow the gross measurements in the provided scoring video thread. Correct? On another note, the main reason I signed up for this is the "accountability". I can easily convince myself to not go; That I will have a busted day and there's no sense in going out because it's too hot or it's just after a holiday weekend, or it might storm (All true things about this first sit). Then just take my vacation time at home and rest, as I deserve. Just knowing that that there is a group of people who benefit from my effort and grind for just honor and bragging rights helps. Gives more more reason than just to fill my fridge and that blank spot on my wall. This is a "virgin" hunt for me so knowing there is a smaller group that can answer questions or give feedback is super helpful. Same reason I joined NWTF and that has been exponential growth for me as a conservations and outdoorsman and an archer. I don't have to paint a V on my face or anything, right? I ate the tuna heart does that count? I am curious though, what traditions have you held for those you've introduced or taken on first hunts?
https://www.realtree.com/deer-hunting/score-your-whitetail-deer/calculate Realtree has a calculator with diagrams where to measure and then you type it all in and it spits out your score. Easy to use if you have a way to measure. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Once you kill your buck, post him up here. And we will help, even after with processing, euro or any other efforts. A lot of it is simple but there's always tips and tricks to make it easier and get better results. We were all rookies once, and to an extent still are at some aspects. My first deer ever was a mature buck with shotgun. Luckiestdeer I have ever killed, missed the first time at 8 yards with a scoped shotgun. I scored it at damn near 160", I've never rescored it because score does not matter to me, but I'd be surprised if it hit 130 No "V" necessary, but if we win a small tribute tattoo mat be required I was in highschool when I went on my first hunt, 1989. My step dad at the time was not a great influence, gave me a sawed off(legal length) shotgun with a smooth bore no choke barreled shotgun with rifled slugs. 3 nights before we went he drilled and put a bead on the emd of the barrel for a sight. Wasn't until 2007 after I purchased and sighted in a proper shotgun that my uncle let me hunt on his land. The above first deer was the result, and evey deer but 3 since. Around that time I found the hunting.net site that preceded bowhunting.com as I bought a bow to feed that adrenaline rush I had just experienced. This site and its members were my mentors and got me to have patience in the wait for a mature buck to come in range. Finally happened with a bow in 2011 and for the most part every year since. I've never mentored anyone or taken someone on their first hunt, never any sort of ritual before or after a hunt, only a few superstitions Only knowledge I have is that the land I hunted for the past 15 years was some of the best land in the entire state that was not managed for big bucks. True mega bucks were caught on trail cam last year, and whoever purchased the land is going to be pleasantly surprised. The only dumb question is the one unasked.
