Planning to check our hives that are stronger for honey extraction. Will check the remainder of the hives to see how they are getting along. Most likely not taking honey from any of the first year hives. Have one hive that seems to be a little misguided. May have to combine them with another hive. We'll see. If it's not too hot may do a little stand work. Mosquitoes will the main PITA! May shoot my bow to see what changes need made with my yardage sticker. I'm sure it's changed a little bit, especially out to 40yds. Other than that, just work around the farm. Always mowing/spraying to do. Hope ya all have a great weekend!
Random question that I couldn't find info on during a quick search: If a person harvests a velvet buck, does the velvet stay on? Or will it become brittle and fall off once the deer dies? i.e. when you mount the rack? Anyone in our group have an early opener? I'll be out, weather conditions permitting, on the 18th for an afternoon sit, or for sure the morning sit on the 19th! It can't cine din enough. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
I’m no expert but I know that if you’re going to have it mounted you need to handle the rack with care when you transport it and either get it to a taxidermist, processor or in a cooler quickly. There are ways to cure the velvet yourself but it seems too complicated for me.
Hi, my name is Ben and I live in Alabama, I am a mechanic and love to hunt public land. Looking to kill a public land swamp donkey. Hit list photos still to come. Looking forward to a productive season.
Well boys NY in it's infinite wisdom decided to add a early season doe only for firearms. So every @$$hole will be pushing deer around come Sept 11. My plan is to stay off the farm and hope they use it for a sanctuary.
Well played. No sense in adding extra pressure when it's unnecessary. Is it a single day or weekend or longer period? Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
They have some preservation / synthetic sprays that you can use to preserve the velvet upon recovering your kill... You then need to find a taxidermist who is experienced in dealing with velvet bucks. Like a lot of things in life - you get what you pay for. I don't have to worry about harvesting a velvet buck in Indiana - but with a little research I am sure you can find the answers you are looking for. This is sold out - but a good example of a product that can preserve the velvet. https://shop.matuskataxidermy.com/products/antlervelvettan
Just put 5 lbs of jerky in the dehydrator. Trying to empty the freezer. Next weekend I’m gonna use up the last 12 pounds for summer sausage. Timed perfectly. I’m hoping for an opening day doe. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums

Unless I’ve missed something we’re just missing one now! Happy - send me some rain to Indiana please. It’s bone dry.
I wish I could. We had way too much too fast. Fourth largest single day rainfall since they started keeping records. The drainfield at my house wasn’t happy about all the water but nothing backed up into basement thankfully. I’ve had some issues with heavy rains overwhelming my drainfield due to taking on water from theneighbors above me. Basically a small river washes over my yard when it’s torrential. Man... I can sympathize with that!! I've got a county owned culvert pipe that runs underneath the road onto my property. The people who built my house 15 years ago connected into the culvert pipe. My pipe has rotted out and caused a giant sink hole in the front yard (pipe needs replaced obviously). I asked the county and the county engineer to please help me either do the excavating work and I will pay for the material to replace or vise versa... You're pushing water onto my property it's your responsibility to help me. They basically told me to eat s h i t. So I told them I was going to call the concrete company and have them pour concrete in the way of the culvert pipe and they can go underneath the road elsewhere... They didn't like that. So I've still got to fix said problem... Washed out my driveway almost entirely. Fun times.
