We will keep hunting bucks through 12/31. We switch to antlerless only Jan.1 - 16th. Our primary focus after the 31st will be predator control. We have quite the population of coons, opposums, skunks and yotes we need to thin out on three of our properties. I won't specifically target fox or bobcat but those are a bonus for sure! I will typically shoot a atleast one doe late season. I got a old nanny doe behind the house that needs wacked for sure.
I’ve got maybe one evening sit this week then Saturday all day for last day of gun season. After new year I will have another 2 weeks or so of late season to attempt again. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
January 1st and that’s all gun season. I might get one or two sits, but I don’t foresee any success since all pictures I am getting are nocturnal.
Work trip 4 days hopefully in the stand Saturday morning. Sent from my Lone Wolf treestand using Bowhunting.com Forums
I’m in the stand for a little while this morning. Temps are really supposed to go up the next several days. YUCK!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just saw the forecast for Saturday rainy and windy!!! May not do an all day sit if it’s miserable. Figures the last day sucks !! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Headed in !!! Last day for a few weeks to add points!!!! Definitely no reception for first half of sit. If nothings moving there by noon I’m gonna switch spots for evening. Rain has stopped so I’m planning for all day. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Nothing today. I have 60+ hrs to burn before January. Looking Monday to book them for the rest of the year to hunt. I will let you know the plan, when I set them. Sent from my Lone Wolf treestand using Bowhunting.com Forums
It’s like June here. This is the toughest time of year to hunt IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Trying tomorrow morning. Have the 22-31 DEC off work. Sent from my Lone Wolf treestand using Bowhunting.com Forums
Sweet! Get a couple deer down! I'll be out tomorrow with a new post of heavier/thicker pair of boots so hopefully my feet won't be ice cubes in the single digit temps I'll be sitting in! I've got tomorrow morning, Tuesday and Thursday morning and then Thursday (the 30th) morning and evening to get a deer or two down before the close of my season on the 31st. I’m getting ready for my 2 day flintlock hunt in 2 weeks. After that I will be back at it at home with my bow to try to fill the buck tag in late season. Gonna be tough hunting but I have seen them at that time of year before so you never know. Really looking forward to getting to camp with our group of 12 to chase them around with the smoke pole. Usually get multiple opportunities at shots but it’s never a guarantee with those finicky guns. This is the meat pole from last years hunt. We ended up getting 2 more after pic was taken. Saw nothing, but a Bobcat today. Wind was 12~17 MPH. Tough going today. Sent from my Lone Wolf treestand using Bowhunting.com Forums
Had a doe at about 25 yards clean/open shot, but she busted me when I was trying to draw. FML. That stand doesn't have much cover once the leaves are down. I thought I was going to get it done! On a positive note, my new alpha burlys did their job. My feet were toasty warm! Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Hunted last night. Saw 14 deer with the cold front we had come through. First time this year I had cold toes... Hunted with my BF. He passed on a couple bucks I thought he surely would have shot this late in the season. Lots of action so it was a good hunt... I spent the last few days prior cleaning up from the storm we had blow through. Got a work out with the chainsaw.
