I only got to check one cam today and freshen up 3 corn piles. Sunday I will freshen up 5 corn piles, check 2 cams, and hang 2 new cams. Then head for Florida late in the evening. Yes, I'm driving all night.
I raced dirt bikes for 20 years. I guess you could say I have some experience in the medical field lol
I had a buddy who did that, I honestly think he spent more time in the hospital than anyone who worked there. Always told him he should just move out of his apartment and just lease a room at the hospital.
Got a squirrel this afternoon! I think we should receive like 1 bonus point for a squirrel and maybe 2 if it’s a fox squirrel. Headed back out and gonna try a different stand for the evening sit. We’ll see what happens.
Hahaha separated my shoulder twice, broken right femur, left ankle, shatter right ankle, and a slew of “oh ****, I saw camera flash and heard popping sounds” My right ankle saga is my favorite though. First pic is after my best friends bachelor party, next pic is when I shattered it, 3rd pic I drank too many natty ice and my knee gave out and my foot folded up under me.
Worked as a medic on a lot of motocross, quite familiar :D. And that is an ugly looking foot and ankle. On am unrelated note, found out tonight baby #2 is a girl! Will have one of each, my son is 3. Due early March. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Here are some pics. Only one new buck. Better pics of the big 6. How many of you would take this big 6 point? Also got a picture of the buck I call Fingers out of velvet, and a couple nice 10 pointers.
One more pic of the buck I call fingers. I almost ran into this while we were out yesterday, and one cool pic of a bedded deer by one of my spots.
I just realised I'm missing my straight on shot of the big 6. When I get back from Florida I'll have to post it. So how many of you would take him?
I would take him. That's a pretty good size buck for NC and we get 2 buck tags so I could still have a second tag incase a bigger buck walks out later in the season. If I hunted in an area like Ohio where the bucks get really big and I only had one buck tag then I am not sure what I would do.
Knowing I have quite a few choices, early on he probably gets a pass, but if I'm still trying for a buck in the late season and he comes by I would take him out. I consider him a mature deer. I believe he is a 4 year old. Last year I believe I have pics of him and he was a 7 pointer.
Beans are turning yellow. Food sources should be switching to acorns which means my camera action should pick up. Didn’t have a chance to check them over the weekend. I’ll probably check the one more time and then stay out.
Checked my food plots Sunday. My turnip, rape, and oats are sprouting nicely - the one good thing that came of that hurricane is that it watered the plots and got them started off well. Got a little lazy on one plot and didn’t go back over it and disk it in and I’m regretting that. You can see exactly where I walked when I was spreading the seeds because it’s sprouting anywhere that I stepped and pushed the seeds into the ground but the rest hasn’t even started. It’s not a huge deal in the end since I hadn’t even planned to plant that plot, just ended up with some extra seed so figured I might as well use it. Still, I wish I’d have gone and spent the extra few minutes to turn it in. I’ve got one plot that’s going to be Magic. It’s a long skinny plot probably 20yd wide by 200 yd long. It’s situated on a pinch point between a deep ass ravine/wash and a waist deep swampy mucky area that’s really the only way to get from the 30 acres of thick nasty briary bedding area on one end to the 20 acres of sawtooth oaks (loaded with acorns and starting to brown out) and all the ag fields on the other. I checked it the day after I planted it and there were dozens of tracks going in both directions through the freshly tilled soil. Can’t wait until the food plot is growing full force and those sawtooth acorns start to drop. It’s going to be a bloodbath
Bout to head out and walk the dog on the golf course I’m hunting this season so I can do some scouting. I was kind of hoping to save that area until later, maybe even until rifle season, and kind fool the deer into thinking it’s a safe area they can retreat to once hunting pressure picks up a bit. It’s never been hunted before and I am the only one that’s hunting it this year and it’s Choc full of deer and they're so used to golfers they practically don’t even look up when a person comes by. I don’t want to blow it out early, but I am considering hunting it this weekend. I spent the entire past weekend at my eastern property and didn't see a damn thing and know that I need to wait another week or 2 on my main local property so my food plots can come in and the acorns start to drop.
