Don't forget your pics too, that's another 50! I've decided I'm going to sneak out in the morning before work, have to get ONE more hunt in here!
No worries...Fawn meat is my favorite so I try to get a fawn every year. I know most people wont target them specifically and some like to insult those who do but fawns have always been the number one target in my family. My grand parents would actually shoot a fawn over a big buck because the meat is that much better. Although i'm sure if you put a big buck in front of my grandpa hell probably shoot the buck before the fawn. Ill upload the photo tomorrow morning since i'm so tired right now.
I was wondering about that, I was guessing for that very reason. Same as why folks like veal! Congrats! Only deer I've ever shot were a doe and a spike (thought it was a doe, the spikes ran the curve of his head) with my 12 gauge. The doe in 2010 and the spike in 2012, was really hoping to take my first with a bow here before I move. We are getting frost on the grass in the mornings, but all the stands on this guy's land on food plots are shoot houses with not enough room to shoot a bow. Hopefully this trail I get on in the morning catches them moving, then I'll have to get to work lol
Question of the day....What do you do when your driving about 85 mph (Going to a medical call) and 3 deer run out in front of you? Brake and Pray...Just missed them all...They are really starting to move up here, I've seen more deer moving in the last 2 nights than all year...Got to get out soon, got bad news from the doc, my son tore his ACL and lateral miniscus. Surgery scheduled for Nov 20
Honestly living where I do and having hit several deer and knowing people that hit several deer, 90% of the time I just keep it hammered. I've hit more deer slamming on breaks or swerving then I have just to keep goin and hang on ha. Although of they're right in front of you you really have little choice then to slow down. Sucks about your son man, hopefully he has a fast recovery.
Just got a text from Joe aka Swamp, possible Illinois BBD! Said it was a low quartering away lung hit around 7 am, tracked for a bit and backed out. Good luck on the recovery Joe, can't wait to hear the story and see pics!
Nope. Unfortunately after tracking for over 600 yards and losing blood, deer wasn't found. After Joe and the others all reviewed the footage, they all agreed the shot was low and the deer will survive, not a mortal wound. Joe and I were texting back and forth while I was in the stand (last hunt in Alabama for me) today. He is not happy with himself but after reviewing the video they all feel the deer will be fine.
Ok so i'm having a little trouble with uploading my pics. For the last year and a half I havent been able to upload any pics, but I thought it would have been corrected by now. Im going to have to email Fitz about this.
Well dang it that sucks. I'm sure he's pretty bummed. He should get another chance though. The bucks are goin crazy around here chasing everything. He's about 30 mins from my house. I had a pretty decent night. Saw 6 or 7 does and 4 bucks. Think I saw the big 9 from other night, but it was quick so don't know for sure if it was him. Whichever buck it was he was occupied running a doe. Had one doe and too little ones hanging around all night and wouldn't leave even though think she spotted me couple times. They just kept coming back, no shot though. Don't know if would of shot her or not, the one little one looked like it would survive but the other was smaller and looked like still needed momma around. So woulda been tough decision.
I don't have any problem with pics from any source. I can't figure out how to load a video at all. Its a video from my trail cam on a SD card.
Had this guy show up saturday morning at 5am. I arrived at 6am. Then, my buddy seen him again tonight while it was light out. He was sitting in a ground blind and it came in from him blind side to 15 yards. he just turned and walked away. I'm pretty excited.
Sorry I wasn't able to contribute to the scoreboard for us before I move, hopefully I can find somewhere to hunt once I'm in Texas. All the public WMAs I'm seeing near Hood are small game only. Comes down to it, there is a outfitter about two hours west of Hood that has good bowhunt pricing, maybe I can do that.
