Another year I get to actually contribute to a team...Took this one at about 7:30 this morning... She came in behind me, I had her at about 10 yds but didn't have a good shot, had her at 30 yds and tried to stop her...No go. She came back around the end of the tree line I was in and started feeding on squash (I sit in the middle of a squash field) Had her at 30 yds, pulled up and put the 40 yd pin on her (by mistake) and spined her. In my rush to get a clean ethical kill I held the 40 on her again for launched 2 more arrows, now I'm pissed I'm down to 1 arrow, ranged with the rangefinder. Put the 30 yd pin on her and nailed a heart shot, she was out in less than a minute. Not the way I wanted it to go but its meat in the freezer... By the way, great video Swamp
Got a new project for the weekend, just picked up a redneck bale blind. Hopefully will work out. The field I'm planning on putting it in has had hay bales in it all summer so they should be used to it. Put pics up when it's together. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
Looks like a pretty cool blind, good luck with it! I'm itching to get out Thursday and Friday to help him seed his plots and check out all the signs in the area because he has several deer on his cams, can't wait for October 15th and what will be my first bow harvest! I figure be positive and it will happen (3rd year is the charm right?)
Yea I have high hopes for it. Sounds about right, got my first with bow on the third year out. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
Took me 6 years to get my 1st bowkill, the first one is always the hardest, been putting one down every year since then
Well I have good news guys. I happened to fix the trail cams that I thought was broken. Turns out, all it needed was a software update. Only thing i have to do is keep batteries in it at all times so all the data doesn't get deleted. Now I have 3 cams including one I got back in January.
So quick question, any of you hunt PA? My cousin is wanting me to come work for his company in Beacon, NY after I retire (and I can't bring myself to live in NY because of the gun laws) but PA is just across the river. Plus, PA doesn't tax military pension and have heard there is some good hunting in PA! I'll try to get some pics tomorrow and Friday when I'm out on the property helping with the food plots, if I find some good sign which I know I will based on the trail cam pics he has.
Third year is definately the year my friend!!!!!!! I'm not to familiar with PA hunting. I lived in western PA for a few years and hunted a couple times but it was on public land and it was a sea of morons during bow season. There are quite a few veteran guys from PA on the forums, I'd start a post in the bowhunting section and I'm sure they'll pipe in!
I'm still tossing around ideas in my head on where to go after retirement, of course a lot depends on what pilot positions are available. I've been looking at places based on tax burden, tax on pension or not, and of course hunting! Right now the list comprises of WY, MO, SD, and PA. Possible KY/TN also
Well showed up to work today to find this Hole is about 4 foot deep, so set up pump to pump water and called it a day unfortunately. But I'm goin to head over and start putting blind together so hopefully have some pics later. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
Wow, those are some great places. I would be so blinded by the best hunting scenerio...lol I think that's why my wife handles all our finances Lookin forward to the pics!!!
Not seeing bucks on my trail cams has been driving me insane. So last week on a hunch I moved one of my cameras to the far corner of my property where there is a pond and a big oak grove on the back side of my sanctuary area, and found this guy again. I'm thinking he is 3 years old judging by body size. Not the biggest rack, but i have 2 RI buck tags and this guy would look nice wearing one around his antlers. Yes he is bedding down in front of the camera....LOL!!! Again, this is in an OPEN oak grove with red oaks and white oaks... the dates and times are correct. i have a few hundred pics of various doe and a few spikes at all times of the day going through here this past week. daytime pics of this buck as well, just blurry so i didnt post it. there are tracks and droppings everywhere through here. There is an old logging trail i access this area with so I can get in there relatively quiet, and not disturbing much. I'm thinking of hitting this area up saturday morning. do you think i should? or is it to invasive? This would go against my initial plan/rule of only hunting the perimeter of my property.....but......i want to kill him. I'm gonna post this in the bowhunting section as well!! Here's the aerial. The pond is the black rectangle (old cranberry bog) the brown line is the cart trail the red circle is the oak grove the blue circle is my house.
