I do it my self. who says you need processing equipment? I just have a good knife, axe, hammer and a sharpener on me and so do most who butcher their own deer. The only power tool i use is a saw to cut the ribs but that could be done with a hand saw.

That's a great way to do it also, couple of friends, a few beers and butcher it the way you want!

True, I know I don't need a full butcher shop in my shed, but at the bare minimum I want a meat grinder for burger, 80% of my meat is done up burger, 10% sausage and one 3 lb roast. Not a fan of the steaks, I'm spoiled by filets

There isn't a lot of equipment that is needed. You can get it done relatively easy with a grinder and a good filet knife. I guess where most run into a problem is the wife may not be too happy about about meat cutting on her counters but luckily my wife enjoys it! We make a day of it and the kitchen counters provide plenty of space.

Didn't get to head to the state forest this morning for some scouting, had stuff to get done around the house. I'll have to put it off until Monday since I have an appointment this afternoon to have a cyst removed from my arm....well if it's just a small incision I'll go out tomorrow lol

My friend also has two smokers, one hot and one cold. The hot smoker is about 6 feet wide and 5 feet tall. Last year alone he smoked over 1000 lbs of meat. It's a really good time, anytime I get a deer I have access to the shop to butcher it, it's a great setup

Well looks like I'm delayed until Monday at least to get some scouting in, the one on left arm was a little deeper than I thought it would be, went down to the muscle fiber so with fresh stitches I'm going to have to give it a few days before I go running around woods and clearing a shooting lane if I find a good spot.

Damm that sucks Schuls!! Good to hear it's just a minor setback and I'm glad everything is ok.

Does anyone have plans for the holiday weekend? It's going to be a low key weekend for us, my sons hockey season starts up monday night at 9pm and it will be a crazy fall with all the odd hour games and practices. unfortunately last year he was only able to make it out in the woods for 3 hunts. hopefully he can get a few more opportunities this season!

It's just a lypoma, this one just happened to start bothering me and now I know why, because it was down to the muscle! It's gone now, just don't wanna pop stitches running around woods tomorrow lol Monday should work plus supposed to be light rain which will be helpful to keep scent to a minimum.

Dang Schuls, careful! Heal up and run around later!

I process my own deer and have for a few years now. That way I am reassured that I get MY deer back. I put in a lot of time and effort to try to make a clean ethical and quick kill shot. I carry a gallon of water to rinse out the cavity once back to my truck, and I sure as heck don't want someones gut shot tainted meat or someone who drove around all day without field dressing their deer to show it off mixed in with my meat...blech! My b/f and I have a pretty good system down and can have an entire deer from the field to the freezer in three to four hours. Don't get me wrong, I love getting meat made into links, landlaegers and hot sticks, but the only good place around me in Stone Ridge and they are really expensive. My last bill for taking 5 deer in for sauage etc was over $600!!!

See, both pretty small incisions. Only a couple stitches. The lidocaine wore off though, gotta love when it starts doing that burning feeling!!

First picture was the deep one on left upper arm, no wonder it hurt when I worked out since it was up against the muscle lol. Will probably feel better holding the bow now too!

As long a you dont pull those stitches I would think its going feel pretty damn good compared to what you had been dealing with!

Grilling up the last backstrap tonight! We only have two more packs of ground left after that. Hopefully I can't get the job done on the opener next week.
