Sat this evening. Temp went up yesterday and dropped back down today. Was hoping there would be some movement but nothing...I'm good to keep going until the end of January so there is more time. Might take my 7 year old next weekend with the black powder, other than that I have the HotHands ready!

My season has gone south. Only deer I've seen while hunting was being chased by a yote.

I will add, as much for my mental note as any.

The rut in cental NC, where I hunt, is usually Thanksgiving week +/- 1 week. So Friday, I set up on the edge of a swampy thicket. A pine covered ridge rises up 100' or so from the wetland.

The deer I saw was running just 40yds from me on higher/drier land, parallel to the base of the ridge. Seeing a deer where I expected, flat land where there could be changing or lock down was reassuring. But...

During my sit, I was doing some rattling and grunts. When I left, I scouted the ridge only to find the freshest of rubs, just shedding a pine.

So, my conclusion, the rut may be a smidge later this year, in central NC. The buck was, in fact cruising/traveling about 1/3 down way down from ridge top. Getting randy and worked up.

Of course, I'm out of town this week. FML.

Saturday it rained. I did some editing of some vids from my CO elk trip and some errands in the morning and sat for a disappointing PM in a different spot due to crappy wind. Heard some turkeys and ran into some other hunters when I left, hunting the same area. Meh, it was bad wind anyway, I had low expectations.

The $24000 question, do I hunt central NC this coming weekend or do I head to western NC where the rut typically lags a week or so...?

Any hoo. You can enjoy some CO videos... week 1 was non productive...by the time we found fresh elk sign and where the animals were undisturbed, the week was over. Week 2, everybody hunting, except me, saw elk...and one guy who was color blind got one... the recovery is one of the vids. Enjoy... sorry to vent... that may be the IPAs influence...

Congrats on both of your deer this season! But you need to have 2 pictures with the deer, you, and your bow, otherwise we can't count it for the contest. Did you have any better pics with it?

I am sorry, missed understand. I have many pictures deer with bow or me with deer and only one picture me with deer and bow. I have film my shot a buck and film recover with arrow bloody, found a buck with me on it but I totally forget place my bow on film. Even I went home take pictures with my buck again but I forget place my bow in the picture.
I am sorry team. I have been for 5 years contests with archery talk but this is first time I am this site contest, I missed understand the rule.
I have black power tag December 17 to January 10 at that time I will use my bow to fill black power tag. ( legal for Iowa ( black power and bow late season) For doe I can kill other one easy.

As long as you upload a couple better pictures than the ones that are currently there, that will work.

Still here, but haven't had the bow out for some time. Missed an awesome 8 last week with the rifle, but he was running so...

Crazy busy week here, my wife had cataract surgery on one eye and one of my kids graduated from college (just 2 more to go) .
