Nothing this morning. Late morning I found a good spot for my ground blind for the rut. A funnel/pinch point. It’s about 20 yards inside the thick mountain laurel. Brushed it in pretty good I think. To quote Clark Griswold, “can’t see the line can you Rus?” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm in NC...if it's brown (without spots and a clear shot within ethical range for the conditions) it's drawing fire...wind from the ENE...but will be 80 tomorrow with plenty of posthurricane mosquitoes. :| Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Nothing today. Not sure if I’ll make it back out this week or not. Next weekend is a no go, me and the wife’s anniversary! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Holy saunas it was hot today! And even with the thermacell running all day, I all had mosquitos all over. Had a doe at 34yds coming straight to me but got spooked (maybe saw me grab the bow) and turned tail. Only after she turned I saw she had a fawn. I had another big nanny at 53 yds, but it was too risky of a shot. 8 wood ducks, 2 blue heron and 3 squirrels. The area was still saturated from the hurricane as well as more rain the past couple days. I'm wiped out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Iowa bow season open today, I just have steroids shot for my shoulder, it hurt, I don’t think I can hunt this week. I may try Saturday I feel better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
went out yesterday in the late afternoon and didn't see much. Going back out on Saturday morning so we will see.
Got out for the the first time today - about died of a heat stroke hiking back to an isolated oak flat - ended up seeing 4 does and a small basket rack . If It wasn’t 90 degrees I would of tagged one of the does - will be a high of 57 tomorrow so hopeful for tomorrow evening.
Saturday is shaping up for some interesting weather. 86°, but 5-7 knot wind from the ENE. It is 3 miles in, with a stand and sticks, bow, etc. Typically I set up on the southeast side of the pond (50yds across when full). The deer hit for water, especially in the morning on that north shore. The deer bed to the east, but approach the pond through THICK cover from the north. But usually they will work along the perimeter on the east & south sides. White oaks N and E. Last week has a doe + fawn @34yds before she busted me. I'm seriously considering setting up on the north side, but I'm concerned I cannot do so, scent free which may do more harm than good. I'd prefer about 10knots of wind for such a risky set in this location...but... Thoughts? I have alternative locations. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Really want to hunt tomorrow afternoon but I will hold off my hunt until next weekend. Good luck all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Doe in the field walking in this afternoon. Had to stand like a statue for about a minute before she wandered off. If she didnt scare the crap out of me i would have thought about a stalk.
My shoulder feels better after steroids affect ( 90%) I decided to go hunt yesterday afternoon. Installed new tree stand done at 5:15 pm, passed 3 does at 5:45pm, 6:15 passed other 3 does, passed a 10 points buck, other 12 point ( 10 point typical) walked the same path behind them. I thought I pass him but I changed my mind. I travel abroad 10days the end of this month. No single vacation left. I have no time to chase bigger buck. I decided to shot him at 41 yards, arrow passed through, he run less than 50 yards. I may replaced him on late season tag ( December 19 - January 10 ) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
