Well my first season came and went fast. I technically have through tomorrow night, but I will not be able to get back down to my zone again this year. At least for this first hunt. I was only able to hunt last Wednesday and Thursday morning before having to come back home. The weather mixed in with some other things caused for this short hunt. Opening morning was eventful for me however. By 6:30am I had four gobblers in the food plot with me but couldn't get them closer than 75 yards. Then around 8:15 a lone hen came into the plot. As she was walking off I decided to call to her and she surprised the heck out of me by answering. We traded yelps for a few minutes and before I knew it I had about 15 birds in the plot with me. At least 5-6 hens, about 5 jakes, and 4-5 strutters. One of the jakes got curious enough and came to within 15 yards but I elected to take a shot at one of the gobblers that was fanned out about 40 yards away. I released the arrow and made what I thought was a good shot and proceeded to watch the birds run away. I tried to follow as soon as I could get out of the blind but all I found was my arrow (minus the nock), and a pile of feathers. I looked for the bird for the next hour and a half but to no avail. Around 1:30 I went back out looking with 4 other friends I was hunting with but we still didn't find him... I'm going to give it a try during the next season a little closer to home and see if I can't make it happen. Sorry team..
Well fellas, my season has come and gone and I ended up with a big goose egg. This is the first year since I have been turkey hunting that I didn't get at least one bird. It was extremely disappointing, especially since it was my own fault that I didn't get a bird. Sorry I couldn't help you guys out.
