Went out this morning bumped 2 on the way in . Later in the morning seen 4 they were a ways into the woods couldn't make anything out.
welcome to all. to be honest i dont really know how this goes so if someone could give me a quick runndown that would be great. im new to this site
Glad to see you made it rkloehn, we have all our team now. We had a close encounter with a good one yesterday (160+ with some junk on it) just could not close the deal, But were playing in his yard, its just a matter of time! Ugly rack, kind of crooked but big with a few stickers. He is on bouth the wife and my hit list. Guys another group named themselves Kings of the fall, do we still want "Sons of the fall" as a team name?
What the hell is a Bouth? LOL! Thanks for the good luck guys, the bucks themselves have been lucky so far. Sunday evening was awesome! The chill of fall was in the air, just a beautiful day to be in the stand, cold enough to see your breath at sunset. I was close enough to hear the show but the wife had a ring side seat, She was sitting in a small narrow wood lot (40 yards wide) in between a fence row and creek bed. Having passed on a 7pt and 2 Does earlier, she had 2 monsters move into the beans on the other side of the creek right at dusk and begin sparring a little. As time passed she is running out of shooting light so she gets in her pack and gets her Grunt Call and rattiling bag out, then starts to try and lure them accross the creek. Well, the more she rattled and grunted the harder the two bucks faught, It was crazy for this time of the year, She never could get them close enough for a shot and got back to the blazer 40 min later than regular time. I'm just hoping we have not wore our out welcome in this spot.
Seen one doe the other night. left the stand early this morning because of the wind. One of them rubed the crap out of a tree not 7 yards from my stand.
Pretty awesome hunt. Had 8 deer come by within 25 yards without getting busted. Didn't take the bow off the hanger though.
We ran into the giant 6pt with no brows thats on our hit list on the way into the stand yesterday evening, came around a turn in the bean field and "bam" there he is at 30 yards face to face, had to watch him jog off. Had a small 8pt at 5 yards, he will be a great looking buck next year.
I went out for the first time saturday morning. In the morning I had a total of 10 doe & 2 bucks pass by at 50yds by 8am. The farm I hunt is close to some public land I use to hunt and about 8:05 I heard some sirens that stopped in the area of the public ground parking lot. 20min later a helicopter is flying over the farm & from the way it sounded it landed on the road close to the parking lot. I decided to get down & drive over there. By the time I got there the helicopter was gone but the CO was there so I talked to him. He said a hunter fell from his stand that was @ 14'. I asked what his condition was but all he would say was they thought it was serious enough to use life-flight. I use to think I didn't need to strap myself to a tree but one day after we had our first daughter I dozed off and almost fell out of the tree. That was the day that I decided I wanted to be around an able to play with my daughter and taking an extra 2-3 minutes to climb a tree was no big deal vs falling from a tree while hunting a deer. From that day on I have never climbed a tree without being connected to the tree at all times I've heard all the stories "I have good balance, if you're careful you won't fall, etc..." Guys it can happen to anyone of us and it would be a shame for one of us to fall with all the equipment available on the market to keep us safe. So, on to the evening hunt. I got in the stand about 3:30 and the wind was gusting 30-35mph. About 4 the wind started to calm down and I spotted a small 8pt buck 80yds to the north working a scrape. Then 80yds west out popped a doe & yearling. The buck disappeared and the doe were slowly working their way to me. The doe stopped at 19yds slightly quartering away & I let the arrow fly, she ran about 60yds and was down. Over the next hour I saw 8 more doe. This was by far the best outing I've ever had for the beginning of the season. Sorry about the quality of the pic my 5yr old daughter took them with my blackberry
Congrats on the Doe Jonathan, your 5 year old did just fine taking the picture, you should see some of mine.
Congrats on the Doe hammerman. I picked up a new spot to hunt 35 acre plot close to town. Its a friends, he doesn't hunt but said if I wanted to put a camera up and see if there was anything worth hunting I could.
Congrats on the doe Hammerman. I went out opening weekend but saw little to nothing. It's still early for my liking and I'm sure it will "heat up" in the weeks to follow.
