Gosh, this cool weather has me itching really bad! Think I'll focus on bear this or next week than get in a tree for deer. Good luck guys!! We may start out weak but....
Drove by one of my spots tonight, 15 deer feeding in the alfalfa. This guy was pushing does around a little. Setting up a ladder stand in the field Thursday now. I wasn’t sure if they were gonna continue to use it but with the beans all turned it’s getting hammered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Probably not. He’s only 3 and I got older bucks around including the one I’ve been hunting for 3 years. But if the conditions are perfect video wise later in the season...I’ll probably send an arrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey Guys! Sorry for being so absent in the thread! I just got back from an archery elk hunt in MT. We ended up killing two bulls out of 4 tags and had a great time. Unfortunately I lost my phone on the first day so I didn't take very many pictures, but I will try to throw some up once I get my new phone working. As for the contest, I will be bowhunting this weekend with the goal to drop the hammer on a doe on film. I havent be out yet since I was elk hunting and I am going to Wyoming on 10-14 for a rifle mule deer hunt so I will miss some great days in October as well
Best of luck sir! I’ll be in the tree Saturday night looking to take a doe myself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Going for my first sit this afternoon, temps are in the 50's today, just hung a stand. No expectations, just looking for a relaxing sit.
Yesterday was opening day. Had maybe the greatest hunt of my life. I’ll give the details later but nothing hit the ground. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dude, talk about suspense! Do tell, do tell! I’m about to head out again, figured I see 6 deer by a spot I had a stand up last year. So, I’ll be out there close to it where I hung a stand. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
So here’s the short version. I went out to an observation stand where I had been road glassing a lot of deer lately. Had a mother doe and 2 fawns come in first, they actually made it to 10 yards and I attempted to take the mother doe on film but she moved off before I was able to get everything set. About 20 minutes later my #1 buck (pictures above) who I’ve been hunting for 4 years appears in the next field over feeding. I haven’t got pictures of him since June 8th but I knew he was around because the neighbor has seen him. He fed into the woods about 130 yards away. A few minutes later a young buck is feeding in the exact same place. Then 3 does come out at about 200. As they feed into the middle of the field I spot a 3rd buck I call the Future (very nice 3 year old) feeding in the spot the other 2 bucks were. As I’m filming him I spot Hook making his way to the 3 does in the middle. Behind him two young bucks, The Future and another 3 year old named Hook Jr come out. The 4 subordinate bucks fight for awhile as Hook and the 3 does feed on the field. Then the deer all group up together, feeding and sparring in the middle of the field (mind you I’m filming all of this) until shooting light ends. After legal light, Hook comes right to the base of my tree behind me. Just another chapter in my quest for this deer. I’m working a 24 today but will be back out tomorrow evening in the same tree. Going to Michigan and hunt there tomorrow afternoon and TUE morning we shall see how different is there vs South Carolina. Let's get it team! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Back at it tonight. Temps are 20 degrees warmer though. Still should be a good night from this observation stand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ill either be bowhunting Saturday evening or filming my dad on the cross bow, either way it should make for an interesting evening!
Heck of a way to start the season. Looks like you have a promising season ahead of you. Heat is coming back plus wife's birthday is tomorrow, I may not even get into a stand this weekend. I really don't care to fool with a deer in this heat, plenty of time left. Tenative plan as of now, I should be in Southern Illinous the weekend of the 20th and a few times in November, I'm kind of holding off until I get a chance up there.
I went hunting on Michigan, let a whole bunch of does pass, just raccoons running turkeys and deer away. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
About the best camera pull I could expect at this point in the season. Hopefully he slips up and makes a mistake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Those are great pics! Sitting in a bear stand now. Can hear one in the corn behind me. Being innendated by an army of red squirrels
Brother and I each got our bear tonight. I had 3 come at the same time right at dark. Was trying to settle my pin on the biggest one but was having a hard time with another climbing my 9 foot ladder stand lol.
