Well the past 2 days haven't been the best. The buck that was under me yesterday never provided a shot. Several deer have blown at me. And to top it off my little make shift bridges collapsed with me on it. So I just spent the afternoon rebuilding a stronger bridge. Camo is currently in the dryer. Hoping for a better day tomorrow. While I was in the stand this morning right about 7 am I had a buck chasing a doe. I stayed in till 11 this morning. I had planned a whole day sit with a quick run to the house for water. And that's when the bridge collapsed... Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk
Well guys, I got to my farm this morning. Checked my cameras for latest Intel and the buck I'm after is on the south end of my farm on a scrape. I elected to go to the north end of my property in the hopes he would make his way towards me approximately 350 yards away. Around 830, I watch 4 does come out to the north of me followed by a fork horn, then a nice 8, then the double beam buck. He is roughly 50yds away. I slowly stand up to prepare myself and I think one of the does caught my movement and bound off with the rest of the herd. They didn't blow such was good. The double bean buck just stands there and snort wheezes. I lay down a lil grunt and he takes a few steps my way. He is hesitant and then turns and bounds away with the rest of the herd. I couldn't believe he made his way so quickly to the north end of the farm. He is one of the better bucks I've personally laid eyes on. I'm going to try to figure out where to go this evening. Good luck everybody! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
I got us 50 more points this morning as long as I entered it right Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Team - hunted hard the last three days. Saw not a buck or a doe in my primary woods. Crazy. Should been active in the AMs for sure. Will pick some days next week in hopes the woods turns a different page. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
It looks like we have 6 does down I’m going to spend the rest of my season trying to get a buck over 100 which would be my pb for a bow good luck everyone Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Today begins the week I'm supposed to have off but I won't be able to hunt many mornings except Wednesday and Friday so I'll basically be hunting evenings. I've got to try to fix a leak on the roof of our camper and bot my kids have wrestling camp this week so ultimately I'm hoping I can lay o e down tonight. I missed an 8 two nights ago with my recurve which I couldn't help but chuckle about. He was perfectly broadside at about 20 yards and I shot under him and back...I did not follow my shot process at all so that was a bummer but it is what it is. I think I might bring the compound out tonight but I tell ya this trad business is fun.
I'll update everyone (short video of a couple bucks as bonus)... Friday - stuff around the house and wife stressing out made me elect to use my day off to get a TON done so no hunting that day - got a lot of vacation days saved for future as things heat up. Saturday - all day planned sit with just a quick midday break possible as this stand is right on the edge of my property with banger entrance/exit for that midday half hour or so breather/stretcher/eat break. 33 degrees in the morning, but besides a doe at first light was DEAD till closer to 10 am...when I had some action. Doe being run back and forth infront of me - once by a buck I call Benor (first buck in the video below), a four year old that God never blessed with great rack genetics but never stopped so no shot...and a younger eight that is either a 1.5 or 2.5 year old that I hope with his hard tight curl beams lives cuz he could be cool. Little before noon that younger buck feeds through plot (clips of this is in video ). Midday break. Got back up the stand and around 3PM I had deer covering me up on the small micro cereal grain plot just outside of the bedding. 7 anterless deer (two buttons) were feeding all around me and then at 4PM Benor comes out of nowhere just walking and was gonna hit a scrape at 20 yards but saw the does and quickly skipped the scrape and I grabbed the bow and powered the camera in one gesture and was gonna shoot but needed two more seconds to draw and settle but he started moving and was off pushing one of the bigger does. The does that stuck around and even the one he chased off came back but he did not....everything filtered off with an hour of light left and never saw anything else. Sunday - Afternoon I got in early given day prior at the same stand, I was very happy as winds were stronger but same direction and temps were similar with rain coming. Sat through some rain and winds but NOTHING ever came by. Rain next two days so won't hunt until Wednesday at the earliest and have right winds for a stand on the other side of the property...we will see what happens. Here's just a couple snippets of those two bucks on an unlisted youtube link:
Sounds like you were close to shooting a good one. Keep at it. Its a rain out here. Hoping to get back out there tomorrow afternoon once the rain ends.
I'm all set up, just stopped drizzling and I just have a great feeling about tonight. As I'm finishing this I just heard some grunting from crp. Keep you guys updated!
Good luck Jensen. Hope you get one tonight! Ty that's some pretty cool encounters! Not sure if I'll be able to get out in the afternoons this week or not. Got back to work today and had a little bit of a mess to clean up. But anyways I feel like I'm pressuring my land pretty hard, and it seems the deer just keep picking me off. So I've come up with 2 solutions. 1. Set up another tree stand close by and clear more lanes since my property is extremely over grown. 2. Give it a break this weekend and hit public that is a QDMA WMA. I just feel weird leaving deer to find deer. So what do yall think? Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk
