I'm about to head out here and do some scouting before I go sit. Temps are 20 degrees lower than yesterday so I'm praying there is some good movement tonight that ends in a successful track job!
Yesterday's sit was an odd one. I had a buck come down a crp trail at 240 well before I was ready and so I stopped, got turned around on a stick with one leg pushing against a limb and quickly pulled my bow up and nocked an arrow. The buck was wandering around the crp grunting and then I though he bedded down so I finished getting set up and then I see him walking away down the edge of the crp so I grunt at him, he turns around and starts coming back but then ultimately circled just off of me and I believe he got my wind. I should have grunted facing away vs faving towards him but that had me fired up thinking I was going to see movement. Only ended up seeing 3 doe. There are two nice bucks running around the property, a mid 130s 8 and mid 130s 10, however I'll pass on those deer as my father-in-law is hoping they'll make it another year and I want to respect his wishes in passing them as it's his property. The hard part is that around the 80 acres there's a ton of stateland and private that operate on if it's brown it's down. I'm hoping they make it too, but if it was a public piece I'd definitely sling an arrow. Hoping to get out Saturday morning and maybe get it done then or maybe even Friday night if my wife doesn't go out after work.
Headed out tomorrow for my 1st hunt of the season. I didn't make it up to the farm last weekend. It was nearly 80 degrees and that 2 hr drive just didn't seem worth it. Got us 50pts this morning with the struggle stick. Dragging a deer .67 miles solo blows....I now understand why game carts are so popular. I haven't been this sore in a long time!
Other night was sadly one of my first real sits….year old and two year old non shooters came by. Similar spot tonight but tree instead of blind. Bedding all around and grains in front.
Team. I’ve hunted the last three days for a doe. No luck. Late next week marks 10 dedicated archery days. I’ll primarily be targeting buck. I’ll take 6 days off work and 4 weekend day to try to get one down. I’ll then target a doe in late season. I want to bring 150-170 points to the team. I’m over due!!!
